The school year had begun and Bluey was finally in Grade 10, while Bingo had moved up to Grade 8. They both felt excited for the new school year, hoping it would be less eventful than the previous one.
As Bluey entered the familiar gates of the school, she couldn't help but feel a sense of trepidation. The memories of last year were still fresh in her mind – the dramas, the fights, the secrets – but she tried to push them away and focus on the present.
She looked down at her outfit.
"Ugh, why do we have to wear uniforms this year?" She thought to herself, picking up a corner of her dark blue skirt.
Bluey adjusted her school uniform - a dark blue skirt and white button-down shirt - feeling a pang of annoyance. She wasn't a fan of the uniforms, preferring her usual look, but she knew it was part of the school's policy.
Bluey made her way towards her locker, which was right next to Bo's. She found her friend already there, struggling to open his locker.
He was wearing the same thing, except for dark blue shorts.
"Hey Bo," Bluey greeted, as she approached him. "Still can't open your locker, I see."
Bo looked up and grinned as he saw Bluey. "Hey Bluey," he greeted back. "And yeah, this damn locker refuses to open, no matter how many times I try."
"Wait, what's the code?" Bluey asked.
"772," Bo answered. Bluey nudged him out of the way, input the code, and opened his locker.
"There you go," Bluey said.
Bo's eyes widened with surprise as Bluey easily opened his locker. He had been struggling with it for almost fifteen minutes. "You are a lifesaver, Bluey!" he exclaimed, grateful for his friend's help.
"It's nothing," Bluey waved him off, grinning. "Just remember to turn the lock a bit more when you close it, or it'll get jammed again."
The bell rang, signaling first class was starting. Bluey went to a classroom door with '8H' on it. Bluey took a deep breath as she entered the classroom and looked around. A few students were still missing, but most of her classmates were already present. She took a seat at her desk, preparing for the first class of the day.
"Pepper Appenzeller? Rudy Bulldog?" The teacher called out. Two dogs raised their hands. "Judo Chow Chow? Peanut Collie? Bluey Heeler?" She called out again. Bluey's heart sank. Judo's in her first class? But, nonetheless, she raised her hand along with Judo and Peanut. " Lucky Labrador Retriever? River Pomchi?" Lucky and River raised their hands.
Bluey gritted her teeth as she listened to the teacher call out the names. She was hoping to have a break from Judo, but fate had other plans.
The teacher cleared her throat. "I'm Mrs. Shih Tzu , and for the first lesson, I'd like you all to talk to the people beside you, get to know them a little," the teacher said.
Mrs. Shih Tzu's request to talk to their seatmates left Bluey feeling conflicted. Judo was sitting next to her, and the memories of all the trouble Judo had caused the previous year came flooding back.
Bluey turned to the other person beside her, Peanut. Peanut had blonde fur and a white underbelly. Bluey smiled at Peanut, relieved to see a friendly face beside her. Unlike Judo, Peanut seemed pleasant and approachable.
"Hi, I'm Bluey, and you're Peanut, right?" Bluey asked. Peanut nodded. Bluey continued, realizing that Peanut wasn't speaking. "It's nice to meet you. Do you need some help communicating?" Peanut got an embarrassed expression and shook her head rapidly. Bluey noticed Peanut's expression and quickly clarified her words. "Oh, I didn't mean to embarrass you. I just thought maybe you didn't feel comfortable speaking. It's totally fine."
