In Anargha
Ameya's eyes widened as Adharva mentioned her niece. Suddenly, memories she thought were long buried came flooding back. Her past, her family, her life before... it all came rushing back like a tidal wave.
*Flashback: "Paradise Lost: The Golden Days of Vijayagara"*
In the glorious kingdom of Vijayagara, where the sun dipped into the horizon and painted the sky with hues of crimson and gold, King Raghavamitra and Queen Sreevidya ruled with wisdom and kindness. Their five little bundles of joy, princes and princesse, were the epitome of innocence and laughter.
Vijayagara, the most powerful and vast kingdom of its time, was a sight to behold. Its beauty was mesmerizing, with lush green forests, sparkling rivers, and majestic mountains. The kingdom was a treasure trove of wealth, with golden temples, precious gems, and vibrant markets.
But what made Vijayagara truly special was the happiness of its people. They lived in harmony, their faces always adorned with smiles, their hearts full of joy. It was as if they lived in heaven on earth.
The kingdom's prosperity was a reflection of the king's just rule and the queen's compassionate heart. Together, they made sure that every citizen of Vijayagara felt loved, cared for, and content.
Those were the days of unparalleled bliss, when Vijayagara shone like a beacon of hope and happiness, inspiring envy and admiration from neighboring kingdoms.
Adithya, the responsible eldest, would guide his siblings with wisdom. Siddhant, the clever second, would engage them in intellectual debates. Vardhan, the charming third, would entertain them with his wit and humor. Indrajit, the brave fourth, would protect them with his fearlessness. And Ameya, the sweet little princess, would bring them all together with her innocence and love. The king and queen would watch their children with pride, seeing the unique bond between them grow stronger each day. Adithya would help Ameya with her studies, Siddhant would teach her logic, Vardhan would make her laugh, and Indrajit would keep her safe. Together, the five siblings were a bundle of joy, filling the palace with love, laughter, and adventure.
Unbeknownst to the royal family, a dark shadow loomed on the horizon. Refugees from the neighboring kingdom of Kalakund arrived at the gates of Vijayagara, seeking solace and protection. King Raghavamitra, with his compassionate heart, welcomed them with open arms. He saw the desperation in their eyes, the fear in their hearts, and the hope in their voices. Among them were innocent children, expectant mothers, and frail elderly, all seeking a safe haven. The king's generosity knew no bounds as he allocated a portion of his kingdom to the refugees, providing them with shelter, food, and employment. Little did he know that this act of kindness would soon unravel the very fabric of his kingdom, threatening to destroy the peace and harmony that had reigned for so long. The seeds of destruction were sown, and the fate of Vijayagara hung in the balance.
Adharva, a young refugee, won the king and queen's hearts with his charm. He played with Ameya, sharing stories of his people's struggles. The little princess adored him, but her brothers didn't approve. They saw him as an outsider, beneath their royal status. Adithya, Siddhant, Vardhan, and Indrajit scolded Ameya for befriending Adharva, but she didn't understand their concerns. She saw only kindness in his eyes and joy in his company. The brothers' disapproval grew, foreshadowing a storm that would soon engulf the palace.
As the years passed, the children of King Raghavamitra grew into young adults. Adharva and Ameya's friendship blossomed into a romance, with the two sharing secret glances and stolen moments. Meanwhile, Adithya and Siddhant, the eldest brothers, married princesses from neighboring kingdoms, expanding Vijayagara's alliances. They each had two children, bringing joy and laughter to the palace.
Vardhan and Indrajit, the third and fourth brothers, had their marriages arranged to princesses from the wealthy and influential kingdom of Maheshwar. Vardhan's betrothed, Princess Nalini, was renowned for her beauty and grace. Indrajit's betrothed, Princess Mrinalini, was admired for her wisdom and compassion.
As Vardhan and Indrajit's wedding preparations reached their peak, the family uncovered a dark secret.
One day morning
Ameya, looking stunning as always, was busy with wedding prep when she suddenly collapsed. Her sister-in-laws, Kiara and Saanvi, freaked out and called for help. The palace doc came running and started checking her out. Everyone was worried, unsure what was wrong.
The doctor came from her room and looked at everyone who is patiently waiting outside.
Doc: [nervously hesitates] "I...I need to tell you something...about Ameya's condition..."
King: [impatiently] "Speak, doctor! What is it?"
Doc: [fearfully] "She's...pregnant."
Brothers' faces turn red with anger.
Vardhan: [furiously] "What?! That's impossible! Our sister can't be like that!"
Indrajit: [accusingly] "You're lying! You're just a stupid doctor!"
[Indrajit takes a step towards the doctor, hand raised]
King: [holding Indrajit back] "Wait! Don't harm her. She's a skilled doctor, the one who looked after your mother's delivery when she gave birth to all five of you. She's been treating the palace for years, she can't be wrong."
Vardhan: [outraged] "Skilled or not, if she's lying, she'll pay with her life!"
Adithya: [calmly] "Let's not jump to conclusions. We need another opinion."
Siddhant: [agreeing] "Yes, bring the most skilled doctor in the land. We need the truth."
Servants scurry off to fetch another doctor, tension hangs in the air.
King: [sadly] "I fear for our family's future. What darkness is this that's befallen us?"
Another doc arrived, confirmed the news, and the palace was shattered. Silence fell, broken only by the wails of Kiara and Saanvi's babies. As Ameya woke up, her family rallied around her, trying to calm her down, thinking she'd be devastated. But, surprisingly, Ameya was beaming with joy, thrilled to be having a baby! Her parents and sister-in-laws exchanged confused glances, while Adithya and Indrajit kept their distance, still fuming.
Ameya sprang out of bed, a bright smile on her face, and began bidding her family farewell. Her brothers' faces turned red with rage, while Kiara and Saanvi looked on, shocked and disapproving. Only her parents remained calm, their faces emotionless. The atmosphere was tense, heavy with unspoken emotions. Ameya's excitement was palpable, but her family's anger and disappointment hung in the air like a challenge. With a final glance, Ameya left the room, leaving her family in stunned silence.
Ameya reached the hilltop and saw him - a young man lying under a tree, eyes closed. She felt drawn to him and ran towards him. She threw herself onto his chest, wrapping her arms around him, and nestled her head in his neck. His eyes opened, and he gazed at her with surprise and wonder. They lay there, entwined, as the world around them faded away.
Ameya: "You're going to be a father."
Who is the father of Ameya's baby? What the future will bring to the kingdom? Will the royal family accept her love with a poor?
