Lines crossed~

Lyla's gaze drifted to the bruise on Aliyah's cheekbone, a faint purple mark that seemed to darken by the day. "Aliyah, what happened to your face?" she asked, her voice soft with concern.

Aliyah's expression turned guarded, her eyes darting away from Lyla's. "I just ran into something," she muttered.

Lyla didn't believe her. She knew Aliyah well enough to recognize the signs of a cover-up. But she didn't push the issue, sensing that Aliyah wasn't ready to talk about it.

As they sat there in silence, Lyla's mind raced with possibilities. Who could have hurt Aliyah like that? And why was she so reluctant to talk about it?

Little did Lyla know, the truth was much closer than she thought. Lyla reaches to touch it as Aliyah flinched, and then Aliyah loses her temper for a second. " Drop it, ok ! It's none of your business, Lyla!! " Aliyah said as she stood up and walked outside to cool off. Lyla felt a sting from Aliyah's outburst, but she didn't take it personally. She knew Aliyah was hurting, and her temper was just a cover. She followed Aliyah outside, giving her space but not leaving her alone.

As they stood there in silence, Lyla noticed Aliyah's shoulders sagging, her guard dropping. She approached Aliyah slowly, not wanting to scare her off. "Hey," Lyla said softly, "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to pry."

Aliyah turned to face her, her eyes flashing with anger, but also with tears. "You don't understand, Lyla. You don't know what it's like to be me."

Lyla took a step closer, her heart pounding. "Maybe not, but I want to try. I want to be here for you, Aliyah."

For a moment, they just stared at each other, the tension between them palpable. Then, without thinking, Lyla reached out and gently brushed a strand of hair behind Aliyah's ear. It was a small, intimate gesture, but it spoke volumes.

Aliyah's expression softened, her eyes welling up with tears. "Lyla..." she whispered, her voice cracking.

Lyla pulled her into a hug, holding her tight as Aliyah broke down. They stood there for a moment, wrapped in each other's arms, the fight forgotten. In that moment, they connected on a deeper level, their bond strengthened by vulnerability and trust.

As they hugged, Aliyah's tears slowly subsided, replaced by a sense of calm and trust. She pulled back, looking up at Lyla with a mix of fear and determination in her eyes.

"Lyla, can I tell you something?" Aliyah asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Lyla nodded, her heart racing with anticipation.

Aliyah took a deep breath before continuing. "I've never told anyone this before, but... I feel like I can trust you, Lyla. I feel like you'll understand."

Lyla's expression softened, her eyes filled with compassion and encouragement.

"I joined a gang when I was a teenager," Aliyah said, her voice trembling. "I was lost, alone, and desperate for a sense of belonging. They took me in, taught me how to fight, how to survive. But it was a toxic environment, Lyla. They exploited me, used me for their own gain. And when I tried to leave... they wouldn't let me go."

Aliyah paused, collecting her thoughts before continuing.

"But that's not all, Lyla. I'm also intersex. I've always known I was different, but I never knew how to process it. The gang didn't care about my identity; they only cared about what I could do for them. But when I met you... I saw a different life. A life where I don't have to hide who I am."

Lyla listened, horrified and heartbroken, as Aliyah shared her story. But she also felt a deep sense of admiration for Aliyah's courage and resilience.

"Oh, Aliyah," Lyla whispered, tears streaming down her face. "I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry you had to go through that."

Aliyah smiled weakly, her eyes welling up with tears again. "It's not your fault, Lyla. But thank you for listening. Thank you for being here for me." Lyla's heart went out to Aliyah as she listened to her story. She couldn't imagine what Aliyah had gone through, but she was determined to be there for her now.

"Aliyah, I'm so proud of you," Lyla said, her voice filled with emotion. "You're strong, capable, and beautiful. Don't let anyone ever make you feel otherwise."

Aliyah's eyes welled up with tears again, but this time, they were tears of joy. No one had ever spoken to her like that before. No one had ever made her feel seen and heard.

"Thank you, Lyla," Aliyah whispered, her voice trembling. "Just being around you makes me feel like I can be myself. Like I don't have to hide anymore."

Lyla's heart swelled with love and compassion. She knew that she had to be careful, that Aliyah had been hurt before. But she also knew that she couldn't deny her feelings. She cared for Aliyah deeply, and she wanted to be there for her.

"Aliyah, can I hold you?" Lyla asked, her voice soft.

Aliyah nodded, and Lyla opened her arms. Aliyah walked into them, feeling a sense of safety and security that she had never felt before.

As they hugged, Lyla knew that she had found someone special. Someone who had been through hell and back, but was still standing. Someone who was strong, resilient, and beautiful.

And as they held each other, Lyla knew that she would do anything to protect Aliyah. To help her heal, to help her find happiness. Because in that moment, Lyla knew that she was falling in love with Aliyah. As they held each other, Lyla felt a sense of peace wash over her. She knew that she had found someone who truly understood her, someone who had been through similar struggles.

Aliyah, too, felt a sense of calm. For the first time in her life, she felt like she could be herself, without fear of judgment or rejection.

As they pulled back, Lyla looked into Aliyah's eyes. "I'm here for you," she said, her voice filled with conviction. "I'll always be here for you."

Aliyah smiled, feeling a sense of gratitude towards Lyla. "I'm here for you too," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.

Lyla's heart skipped a beat as she realized the depth of their connection. She knew that she had found a true friend, a soulmate.

As they stood there, wrapped in each other's arms, Lyla knew that nothing could ever break their bond. They had been through too much, and they had found each other.

In that moment, Lyla and Aliyah both knew that their lives would never be the same. They had found a love that was strong, resilient, and true. A love that would last a lifetime. As they stood there, wrapped in each other's arms, reality suddenly snapped back into focus for Aliyah. She remembered her job, her duties, and her responsibilities. She couldn't let her feelings for Lyla compromise her mission.

But there was another reason for Aliyah's sudden withdrawal - a reason she couldn't share with Lyla. Fear. Fear of Lyla's father finding out about their relationship.

Aliyah knew that Lyla's father, a powerful and influential man, would never approve of their relationship. He would see it as a betrayal, a breach of trust. And he would stop at nothing to keep them apart.

With a swift and sudden movement, Aliyah pushed Lyla away, her expression turning cold and guarded once again.

"What are we doing, Lyla?" Aliyah asked, her voice firm and detached. "We can't afford to get distracted. My job is to protect you, not to get involved with you."

Lyla looked taken aback, hurt by Aliyah's sudden change in demeanor.

"Aliyah, I thought...I thought we had a connection," Lyla said, her voice trembling.

Aliyah's expression remained stoic. "We can't afford connections, Lyla. We can't afford feelings. My job comes first."

But inside, Aliyah was screaming. She was screaming with fear, with anxiety, with the knowledge that she could never truly be with Lyla without putting them both in danger.

With that, Aliyah turned and walked away, leaving Lyla feeling confused and heartbroken. The moment they shared was gone, and Aliyah was once again the cold and guarded bodyguard Lyla had first met.
