For a moment, the world seemed to stand still. Taehyung's hand lingered close to my face, and I could feel the warmth of his skin, the steady rise and fall of his chest as he stood just inches away from me. His presence was overwhelming, a mix of comfort and tension that made my pulse quicken.

He took a step back, his intense gaze never leaving mine. I could feel my cheeks flush under the weight of it, the room suddenly feeling much smaller. The Taehyung I remembered had always been captivating, but the man standing before me now was something else entirely. He was taller, broader, with a sharp jawline and piercing eyes that seemed to see right through me. His features were more defined, more mature, and there was an air of mystery around him that both intrigued and intimidated me.

"So... what are you doing up this late?" he asked, his voice low and smooth, the kind that sent shivers down my spine.

"I could ask you the same thing," I replied, trying to keep my voice steady despite the fluttering in my chest. "I was just hungry."

He smirked, a small, almost imperceptible curve of his lips that made my heart skip a beat. "You haven't changed much, have you?"

There was a teasing edge to his words, "Maybe not. But you have."

His expression faltered for a split second, something unreadable flashing in his eyes before he masked it with a cool indifference. "We all do, eventually."

I nodded, unsure of what to say. As the silence stretched between us, I shifted my weight, suddenly feeling self-conscious in my oversized t-shirt and pajama shorts. The kitchen felt too quiet, the air thick with unspoken words. I needed to say something, anything to bridge the gap that had formed over the years.

"I... I missed you, Tae," I blurted out before I could stop myself.

His eyes softened, just for a moment, and I saw a glimpse of the boy I used to know. But then, just as quickly, his expression hardened again, the walls going back up. He looked away, his gaze focusing on the floor as if he were trying to find the right words.

"I'm sorry I wasn't here when you arrived," he said, his voice quiet, almost distant. "Things have been... complicated."

I frowned, wanting to ask him what he meant, but I could sense that he wasn't ready to talk about it. Instead, I nodded, letting the subject drop for now.

"Well, at least we're here now," I said softly, offering him a small smile. "That's what matters, right?"

He looked at me then, like really looked at me, and for a moment, I thought I saw something vulnerable in his eyes, something that made my heart ache. But just as quickly as it appeared, it was gone, replaced by that same unreadable expression... Again.

"Yeah," he said finally, his voice barely above a whisper. "That's what matters."

There was a tension between us, a pull that I couldn't ignore. I felt it in the way he looked at me, in the way he stood just a little too close, in the way my heart raced whenever his gaze lingered on me for just a second too long.

I wanted to reach out, to close the distance between us, but something held me back. Maybe it was the fear of what had changed between us. Or maybe it was the intensity of his gaze, the way it made me feel like I was standing on the edge of something new and unfamiliar.

Before I could make a decision, he moved, stepping closer to me until there was barely any space between us. I could feel the heat radiating from his body, could smell the faint scent of his cologne—something dark and intoxicating that made my head spin.
