A/N: Hello my amazing friends! Ok...so this is my first Voltron fanfiction, please forgive any grammar mistakes. Hopefully you like it, there is a good portion of Klance (although its not the main focus) but its there :)! Enjoy!

'I've been impaled'

That was the first thought that had ran through Keith's mind, which was quite ironic assuming the mission details.

'It's an easy mission' Shiro had said

'It'll take you less than four vargas' Coren had reasoned

'We'll protect each other' Lance had exclaimed

Well...maybe they were protecting each other, but Keith being himself had been bound to mess that up. And truthfully, he hadn't meant to get severely injured.

But it had just happened

Without warning even

It had started when Keith had been assigned to cover Pidge – who was gathering essential intel – and although many had assumed that was an easy job to finish. It was quite far from the truth.

There were a lot of Glara soldiers, many of which, it was apparent that they had increased their training and skill level from their last encounter. And although it was a little impressive, it also made Keith's job a whole lot harder than it was supposed to be.

To top it all off, he also had to protect Pidge, who was defenseless at the moment

He really had to stop making a habit of this

But Keith was never really one to admit when he needed help. And it certainly wouldn't have started then.

So, he fought all the Glara soldiers single handedly, with no heart and all mind. Pidge needed him to cover her, and he wasn't one to shy away from keeping promises.

Keith knew how it felt to have a promise broken and didn't want to inflict that burden upon his fellow team members.

Naturally, there is where all his courage had come in. But his courage often gave him more trouble than he bargained for, his current predicament clearly showing that.

"Pidge," Keith grunted as a sword narrowly missed his right shoulder. "How much longer?"

"Only a few more doboshs," Pidge replied. Her fingers twisted with each passing wire, as the computer screen lit up with warnings about nearby threats.

'Ok...she only needs a few doboshs. That shouldn't last long'

But how a few minutes had dragged into what felt like hours, Keith didn't know.

With each soldier that Keith had managed to knock down, more soldiers appeared in their fallen comrades place. It was exhausting, painful, and beyond anything that the red paladin had wanted to experience that night.

Keith swung his sword, once, twice, and a few more times

He panted, dragged his feet, and felt everything slow

His stamina slowed

His mind turned off

And time went still

'What are you doing? MOVE!'

But his feet weren't cooperating

Nothing was cooperating

His eyes roamed past the battlefield, to where the rest of the paladins were fighting. Unaware that their former red paladin was struggling beyond belief.
