a/n: sorry guys i got my lap top taken away for a while and then i didn't know what to write but im BACKKKK
The morning after the sleepover, I went home pretty early to make sure I wasn't overstaying my welcome. I was the first person to leave, rushing out after breakfast. I told them I had chores I needed to get done before my aunt was home from work, and they all understood.
The drive home was quiet; a drastic change from the sleepover that wasn't even silent when we were asleep, (the TV still playing at full volume).
Even through the loudness, I still had a really fun time. Actually, it was one of the best nights I've had in a long time. The boys were so accepting, and I had a fun time talking to Robin.
Robin. The boy who always smells of mint and chocolate, but despises mint chocolate chip ice cream. The boy who chooses to grow his hair so long, yet complains every time it's windy and won't stay still. The boy who is supposedly the second-best fighter in town yet only fights people who deserve it. The boy who has only known me for a little while, but still has shown more interest and concern for me than most people who have known me my whole life have.
The boy who I was developing a massive crush on.
The only time I've been able to get more than three hours of sleep in the past week was last night, due to the comforting feeling of his side pressed against mine.
I found myself giddy with the idea of getting to see him often this week, between tutoring and him inviting me over next weekend to watch movies.
As I stepped into my house I was met with the smell of pancakes. Swinging the front door closed behind me, I jogged up into the kitchen to greet whoever was cooking.
"Gwen!" I said, surprised to see her there. Her back was to me, but I could see her flipping a pancake over on the stove with a spatula.
Looking over her shoulder she gave me a smile before turning back to the stove. "Morning Sunshine. How was your friend's house?" she asked curiously.
I hadn't heard her call me Sunshine since we left our old house. I figured it reminded her of bad memories, but my heart lurched at the old nickname.
"It was good. Really good." I said happily. "However I'm very sad right now that I ate at Bruce's and missed out on your pancakes."
Gwen laughed while removing the food from the stove and moving it onto a plate. "Well, it's a good thing I made extras so you could have some later."
"You're the best! Love you!" I called out while walking towards my room.
I closed the door behind me and walked over to my window. Opening the curtains, I looked out and took in the view.
Standing there quietly led my mind to wander. I thought about last night, how I didn't take my pills, and how clear my mind felt because of it.
The pills I take make me feel brain-dead. It's like having all the energy and personality sucked out of my body and replaced with a mind-numbing indifference to everything. I know they help, but it's not me on the pills. It's an empty shell of a human being.
That was why I decided to skip my dose that morning.
And then the next one.
It was Monday afternoon which meant it was time for my first-ever tutoring session with Robin. I wasn't sure what to expect honestly. I didn't know the directions to his house, so I was kind of hoping that we could go together, but I wasn't even sure what class he had last period, or how we were going to meet up.
It was ten minutes until the bell, and I was fighting off sleep as I listened to my English teacher rant about some book. I watched as she paced the classroom, and pretended to be paying attention until I felt my phone buzz in my pocket.
robin: hey finn! im so sory i forgot to mrntion the details abt tdy! wr can meet by the diwnstairs batgroom and then walk to my house if you wsnt? the walk is prety short
I smiled amusedly at all the spelling errors as I typed a reply.
me: hey robin! no worries and that works for me
I silently slipped my phone back into my pocket and returned my focus to the teacher, anticipating the bell ringing.
When class was finally dismissed, I packed my things up and walked to the downstairs bathroom as fast as I possibly could. Robin had gotten there before me and was leaning against the wall looking down at his phone when I walked up to him.
"Hey Robin," I said, announcing my presence.
"Hey Finn, what's happening?" he asked, putting his phone away when he saw me.
"Just...keeping on keeping on I guess." I laughed softly, "What about you?"
"Just had Chemistry. Worst class ever. Except for Math." he complained.
"What?! Math is like the best subject. Except for any type of Science. Science is the best ever and can never be topped." I said passionately.
His eyes went wide as he looked at me, and if it weren't for the playful smile on his lips I would be worried I said something wrong.
"I can't believe you actually like Math and Science. They're like the worst two classes. everyone knows P.E. and English are the best." he said firmly.
"I'm going to pretend you didn't just say that." I gasped dramatically.
"Well I guess we should start the walk to my house now," he said as he pushed off the wall he was resting against. "My brothers shouldn't be home when we get there, but my older sister, Maria will be there at first with my younger sister. Once I get home she normally leaves for work so that someone is always with my baby sister, Sophia."
"Aww, I love little kids," I commented as we started our walk out of school. "They're so cute and they are so much kinder than adults. They are the best."
"Sophia's alright," he said nonchalantly, but I could see the love for her on his face.
I talked the whole walk, with him chiming in every so often to voice his thoughts.
It was nice being able to talk so freely without the Lithium pill dulling my brain.
And it was also nice knowing I had someone who was listening.
