Midterms

As promised, Jace woke up the next morning with Lucifer and had breakfast with him. Over the next couple of days, he had buried himself in his books again while keeping his promise. He had sat with Lucifer while he studied and did his best to spend more time with him. But the day of midterms arrived and it was time for Jace to put all his studying to the test. The tests lasted for two days and Jace took it as a good sign that he didn't seem to struggle with them. On the final day, he felt a wave of relief wash over him that it was finally over. Now all he had to do was wait for his test scores and hope his studies paid off. Jace was walking with Lucifer through RAD whenever the demon's D.D.D went off. Lucifer told him that Diavolo had summoned him to the student council room and told Jace to wait for him. Lucifer had gotten a message from Lord Diavolo that he needed to come to the student council room immediately. He was curious as to what he wanted but assumed it was important, or his brothers causing problems again. He walked in and saw only Diavolo and Barbatos standing there with some papers in their hands.

They both greeted him and Lucifer raised a brow before speaking up. "What is it you needed Lord Diavolo? Did something happen?" Lucifer asked and watched as the two shared a look with each other before Diavolo spoke up. "Yes actually. You see, Jace's test scores came back and... well, see for yourself." The Prince said before handing Lucifer the paper in his hands. The demon looked down at it and his eyes widened as he read the score. He flipped through the tests and scanned through them in disbelief. Lucifer looked back up at the other two demons and saw both of them wearing wide smiles. Jace didn't just pass his exams. No. The human didn't get a single answer wrong on any of them! "He... Jace didn't miss a single question.. And he passed all his verbal tests too?" Lucifer asked in disbelief as he looked back at the tests. "I can't believe it..." Lucifer mumbled before looking up at Diavolo with wide eyes. "I must admit Lucifer... I'm impressed. He continues to exceed my expectations with every task given to him. And to think, I consider holding him to the same standards as the student council members. Yet he did better than any of your brothers!" Diavolo said proudly with a laugh before looking to Barbatos.

The butler stepped forward with his usual smile and placed his hand over his chest. "Lord Diavolo would like to personally invite Jace to the castle tonight for a party in honor of him passing his midterms. We will be providing a feast in celebration and the young master would like to have a sleepover as well." Barbatos informed them and Lucifer nodded before handing the papers back to Diavolo. "I'll let him know and tell him to prepare for tonight. He'll be thrilled." Lucifer said with a nod of his head before Diavolo stopped him. "Don't tell him that we're doing a party for him, ok? Let him think it's just a normal dinner as a congratulations." The Prince requested and Lucifer nodded before leaving the council room. Lucifer was still in shock that Jace didn't just pass, the man made the highest possible scores on all of his midterms. Lucifer smiled to himself as he made his way back to the entrance to pick Jace up. He walked through the doors and saw the other man standing there waiting for him. Jace's eyes went to the papers Lucifer was holding in his hand.

"Are those your tests?" He asked curiously as Lucifer kept a straight face and motioned for him to follow. Both of them walked out of RAD and headed back to the house of lamination. "Indeed they are," Lucifer responded and kept walking seeing Jace's eyes widen. "You can have them when we return home. We need to go over them." Lucifer informed him before he could ask and noticed how Jace's face seemed to pale and his expression falter. He almost felt bad since it was clear that the other man's confidence had wavered. But for now, he would keep his poker face and not give anything away. Jace remained silent for the rest of the walk and Lucifer could sense his nervousness. The demon glanced at him every so often and saw the other man fidgeting with the sleeve of his uniform. Lucifer looked forward again as they approached the house and opened the door. Jace followed him inside and Lucifer led them to his study. Lucifer gestured for Jace to sit down in front of him as he held the papers to his chest.
