It was the next day. Hailey rummaged through her locker. The hallways were quiet, as it was lunchtime. A few students would pass by during the lunch hours, though not often. Ever since the music clubs times changed to after school hours, Hailey has had to change up her schedule a bit. Everyone's schedules has. Luke tended to clean his drums during lunch, but he always eventually joined Hailey and Zander for lunch in the cafeteria. Sean and Milly, being in different grades, had class. Their lunchtimes were at different periods.
"Whereeee... is my lunchhh..?" Hailey wondered quietly out loud to herself.
She held her phone in one hand while the other felt for her lunch in her backpack. Hailey heard a loud screech and a bang of someone hitting the locker, causing her to jump and instinctively look to where the sound came from. She had been so focused on finding her lunch, she hadn't heard the students over by the other lockers. Hailey froze as she watched- well- whatever the hell was happening in front of her. She didn't know these students, though one was on the hard tiled floor. There were faint blood marks on the lockers, and the student on the floor had an injured head. There was a person... a.. person?, on top of the student, aggressively biting and clawing at the injured person below. What the...
Hailey hadn't moved, too focused on the scene before her. She tried to get a good look at what was on top of the student. It WAS a person. Well.. it had a human like appearance. But Hailey was not confident in naming it as a "human". All of it was happening so quick. The aggressive student had pale, gray-ish skin. Nothing natural. Their arms and face were almost veiny, it was disturbing. Haileys eyes wandered to the neck of the student, which had a bloody bite mark. Teeth marks belonging to a human.
Hailey blinked quickly, snapping back into reality. She breathed heavily, quickly opening the camera app on her phone and taking a picture of the... honestly zombie-like student. It was the only thing she could think to do in the moment. But her thoughts were jumbled, so she was moving very quickly and sporadically. She didn't care to close her locker, thinking it'd make too much noise and put the "zombie's" attention on her. Before she turned around, she swore she spotted some more of those weird figures walking down the hall. But maybe she was seeing things, her brain was scattered anyway after witnessing .. that. Hailey ran to the nearest room, which thankfully was the music room. She swung open the door and quickly shut it behind herself, locking it. She spotted Luke, who was on the floor and cleaning his drum set, but she didn't have time to say hi. Hailey ran over to grab the only table in the room, beginning to drag it across the room and over to the door.
"Hailey? What- what's going on?" Luke asked, standing up.
"Help me move this table, Luke!" Hailey requested, out of breath and panicked.Luke didn't ask any more questions. He quickly walked over to help Hailey drag the table. They both pushed it in front on the music club door. Hailey backed up from the door, very obviously scared and shaken up. Luke observed her face and heavy breathing. He let her catch her breath before asking another question.
"You good? What's- why are you so panicked?" Luke asked, trying to keep his voice steady and sweet as not to panic Hailey any more than she already was.
"You have to see this. I swear, I'm not crazy, there are like- like zombies out there!" Hailey managed to get out, beginning to pull out her phone.
"...What?" Was all Luke could say."Is this a prank?" Luke thought to himself. "Zombies.. I mean, come on... those don't exist." He reassured himself. But Hailey seemed incredibly shaken up. She wasn't a good actor or anything, Luke would know. Hailey opened her photos app, clicking to the picture of the attacked student and the.. zombie?
"I know you don't do well with blood.. but- but you have to see this." Hailey said quickly.
She handed Luke her phone, he took a look at the slightly bloody picture. He blinked quickly. His stomach hurt a bit from looking at it. He didn't know anyone personally in that photo, but they were students. Luke recognized them. Even the veiny.. pale student. Which was the, supposedly, "zombie". But even that zombie looked recognizable. Not normal, obviously, but Luke could tell who it was. Which sickened him. He noticed the bite mark on the zombies neck. After what felt like a long time of Luke observing the picture, he handed the phone back to Hailey.
"Okay... uh- are you hurt, first of all? Did you get attacked, or did you get here safely?" Luke asked, trying to think of how to handle this calmly. Calm- how was anyone supposed to be calm?!
"No, I'm safe.. I'm safe." Hailey reassured. She walked over to go sit down on the piano bench for a moment to calm herself.Luke wanted to keep asking questions, but he figured Hailey needed a moment. And besides, he was busy with his own questions. Where were his friends?
Where was Zander?
