Madi stared at her best friend's text as she swung her legs over the side of the bed, the prospect of her nail appointment at 5 weighing heavily on her mind. She quickly brushed her teeth and slipped into a blue-and-white striped tube top paired with jean shorts over her white bikini.

"Morning, Mom! I'm heading out to hang with Kiara and the boys after breakfast," Madi announced, bounding down the stairs.

"Alright, sweetheart, just make sure you stay safe and make good choices," her mom, Sofia, replied, sipping the fresh coffee she'd just brewed.

"Oh, and remember to pick Noah up from his sleepover around noon," Sofia added, a smile brightening her face.

"Can you ask him to walk or something? He's just a few blocks away," Madi whined, moving toward the kitchen.

"I'll see what I can do," Sofia winked, an understanding gleam in her eye.

Madi and her mom shared a special bond—more like best friends than parent and child. They were always up for a chat, a bite to eat, or simply hanging out together.

"I love you so much," Madi said, planting a kiss on her mom's cheek as she reached for the fridge.

"Love you too, babe. I'm heading to the hotel now, so remember to lock the door and text Noah," Sofia said, heading for the door with one last smile.

Madi's parents owned a legendary kook hotel, a major hotspot for tourists in the area. It was how they ended up living as Pogues on Figure 8.

"Of course, how could I forget? You remind me every time you leave, Mom. I've got this, trust me." Madi rolled her eyes playfully, pouring herself a bowl of cereal while scrolling through her phone.

She nearly laughed out loud at the posts flooding her feed about the kegger tonight, each one more ridiculous than the last.

"This has to be a joke," she muttered under her breath, finishing her last bite and rinsing her bowl in the sink.

Suddenly, she flinched at the sound of two familiar voices outside. "Madison Nicole Hyland, open up!"

She paused, then realized it was none other than John B and JJ. If she didn't know any better, she might think she was about to get kidnapped—in her own home.

"Unreal," she scoffed, making her way to the door. She swung it open, revealing the familiar faces of her childhood friends.

"Are you guys serious?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.

"C'mon, Madi! Lighten up! We're picking up Pope and Kiara, then heading to that new house being built a few blocks from your hotel," John B said, nudging her as he and JJ stepped inside.

"And literally do what? Just fuck around?" Madi replied, sarcasm dripping from her voice as she filled her water bottle.

"Exactly! How did you know?" JJ exclaimed, looking genuinely surprised.

"You can't be serious right now," Madi shot back, rolling her eyes.

"Before we leave, I need to check if Noah needs a ride," Madi said, slipping on her shoes and grabbing her phone to text her brother.

"Wait, why not just pick him up?" JJ asked, bewildered.

Madi glanced at him, wondering if that was the only expression he knew. "Oh sure, let's take my 7-year-old brother to random houses that aren't even built yet! Great idea, JJ! Thanks for that!" she retorted, rolling her eyes but unable to suppress a smile.

"See? This is your problem—you've got to let him experience the world!" JJ declared, waving his arms dramatically.

"Are you two done arguing like an old married couple?" John B chimed in, unable to hide his laughter.

Madi shot him a glare, her face flushing. "Great, so if we do need to pick him up, we'll bring him back here. How does that sound, Maddog?" John B said, slinging an arm around her shoulders.

As she dialed Noah's number, she shot a glance at JJ and John B, who were now playing with the fancy ice maker in her parents' high-end fridge, sending ice cubes flying everywhere.

"Hey, Noah! Do you need me to pick you up, or are you good to walk?"

After a few moments of back-and-forth, she hung up, casting a deadly glare at JJ, who was now sheepishly eyeing the mess they had made.

"Okay, who's cleaning up this mess? Because it sure as hell isn't going to be me," Madi declared, still giving JJ the stink eye.

"I'll take care of it," John B volunteered, stepping toward the chaos on the floor.

"No, JB! I want him to—" Madi started, but John B interrupted, scooping up a handful of ice and dumping it down the back of JJ's shorts.

"Bro, what the hell!" JJ yelped, retaliating by tossing more ice at John B.

Trying to stifle her laughter, Madi stepped between them, sending JJ to the bathroom to deal with his wet situation.

When JJ returned, hands covering his ass to conceal the huge wet stain, Madi and John B couldn't contain their laughter.

"Alright, Noah's good, so let's get moving!" Madi exclaimed, excitement bubbling as she led the way to the door, locking it behind them.

"Let's go, boys!" she called, the three of them heading over to the Twinkie, ready for whatever the day had in store.
