Laura and Greg walked back to the gate. They continued their conversation. Laura wanted to find out about his past relationship. At least what he would say about it. “So Greg, why did you divorce?”
Greg said, “I…My ex said that I was traveling too much so we drifted apart.”
“Uh..hmm..” Laura said.
“Personally, I think it was something else, she married quickly after our divorce.”
“So why didn’t you get remarry?”
“Because I just met you.” Greg said.
Laura laughed, “Don’t make any promises you aren’t willing to keep.”
“I can see you are exactly what I want and need.”
“How do you know?” Laura asked.
Greg ignored the question and said, “How about a chocolate shake at the ice cream shop. I love that stuff.”
They stopped and got some ice cream and began eating it as they continued walking to their gate.
“OK, so how much traveling do you do now?” Laura asked.
“Not much, I hate being away.” Greg said. “So what about you. I just can’t imagine such a beautiful woman not attached.” Greg continued.
“Well I just met you.” Laura said while both of them laughed.
They got back to the gate while boarding was in progress. They were in the last call. Laura smiled and kept up her end of the conversation, but she couldn’t help but think about the lack of sparks when Greg kissed her. And she couldn’t help but compare it to her first kiss with Micheal because it was not so long ago. Then heaven and earth seemed to move. But she hardly knows this guy and it isn’t fair to compare him to one she had known and worked with and lusted over for so long.
The plane was close to empty. Only about 30 of the 200 seats were occupied. Greg quickly found his seat which was towards the middle-back of the plane, he sat down. Laura looked down on her ticket and saw that her seat was in the very back. Greg asked, “Will you join me?”
Laura jumped down into the seat and got a little cosy. The pilot cut out the lights and it was very dark as it was dark outside as well as dark in the plane. Laura felt comfortable as she laid in Micheal’s arms. They talked a little bit more, but Laura was lost in her thoughts as Micheal just held her.
They touched down in Nashville at midnight. The Nashville airport is a small one for a city that large. It was empty and deserted as they walked down to the baggage claim. They were largely quiet. Laura was tired and walking on autopilot.
They got their luggage and Greg then put out his hand and said, “It was nice meeting you, I can’t wait to meet you again, Ms. Beach”
Laura smiled shook his hand and said, “Anytime Mr. Perry.” Laura paused, “On second thought.” Laura then grabbed Greg and they embraced and kissed. This time deeply. Laura allowed her tongue to dance with Greg’s as she felt the sparks that she was hoping would be there. After about fifteen seconds they ended the kiss.
“Do you need a ride home?” Greg asked with an expectant look on his face.
“Easy tiger, you just give me a call tomorrow.” Laura said while smiling. She picked up her carryon bag and rolled her luggage to her car. She got in and drove back home.

Laura got home and changed into bed clothes quickly. She thought about how eventful the last 3 days had been. She took out some flannel pajamas and went to check her messages. Laura rarely gets messages on her home phone. Most people call her on her cell. She had 3 messages.
The next message was from Emily, Emily said, “Hey Laura, OK. So what happened? I just got off from my date and I tried to call you but your phone was off. Give me a call girl.”
Laura pushed the button to listen to the next message. It was Emily again, “Pick up your phone girl…OK, bye.”
Then she pushed the button again and it was Micheal. “I really don’t know what is going on with you, but I am…I know what you said about us working together, but I…we really need to talk Laura. Please don’t shut me off without talking.”
Laura noted that Micheal sounded a little less sure of himself and a little more tentative. She felt bad that part of the reason for this is the emotional roller-coaster that she had put Micheal on. She didn’t look forward to the conversation where this time he will be able to talk, but she did know it was to come.
Laura hoped that their work relationship wouldn’t suffer. But before she could feel too bad for the Micheal situation she thought about that last kiss with Greg and smiled.
Laura glided over to her cell phone and turned it back on. She had turned it off because she was on an airplane. Sure enough she had 2 messages on her cell phone.
One was from Micheal and one was from Emily. Micheal simply said, “Check your messages when you get home, I will see you tomorrow.”
And Emily bellyached that Laura didn’t answer the phone.
It was about 1:30am and Laura realized that she needed to go to work early in the morning. She decided not to call Emily and she got into her bed.
She thought about some work that she needed to do when she got back in the office, but every-time she thought of work she could see Micheal in her mind. So she decided to only think of Greg and what may come in their budding relationship.
