After beating his foes Wade decided to start raiding the coin pouches of his foes. He didn't really need money, but he could at the very least give it to someone like Gloria or Penn who will actually use it to help the Ring in some way. Most didn't have much on them; the 4th Ring was only higher than the 5th in the class system after all. These dickheads weren't rich by any definition of the word but still they each carried much more than someone in the 5th would see in a lifetime. After emptying the pockets of the Bronze Ranks Wade noticed some of the others waking up.
He didn't feel like fighting more and needed to check with Gloria on the Church anyway, so he was just going to fly away until "You bottom feeding peasant! You think they won't be repercussions for this? We'll come back with the rest of our guild and burn that whore at the stack! Then we'll parade your mangled corpse around this dirt Ring!"
After this threat Wade grabbed the man by his neck and Squeezed until the adventurer started turning blue but instead of ending the man dropped him to the floor.
"Big brave adventurers. Whatta joke. Today was a warning but if you actually Make good on ya threat I'll burn all of you to cinders. Now fuck off I have more important stuff to do."
Despite the rage and embarrassment each adventurer felt, none of them wanted to see what would happen if they pushed their luck so instead, they picked up they're injured and hightailed it to the 4th Ring.
Wade hit the skies as soon as the bastards were gone. Patrolling the land from above was one of the few advantages he had, and he always had to be vigilant first he checked out the building which had been damaged by the saw thrower, it was abandoned luckily. Looked like it used to be a work base for the 5th Ring miners. But since Valor started hiring Adventurers to do it's mine work a place like this serves no purpose.
And unlike any of the other sections of Valor the 5th Ring has official government involvement or support. Even the 5th Council member in charge of the Ring lives in the 4th Ring instead of the 5th.
Education, medical care, even basic food and water the people of this Ring were expected to provide all of this for themselves. A raw deal with no up sides, but it's one those in the 5th have to accept because their only other option is to leave the country and travel into the monster infested Wilds.
The people have been trapped not by the kingdom itself but by the world. And as the Red Hawk it was Wade's responsibility to help the people of the 5th. Wade looked around checking different areas and occasionally he would find something like a drunk man who needed to be walked home. Or helping the sickly Addy who had come down with a minor illness a few weeks ago. The man's been coughing blood for days, but the 5th has no medical aid, so Wade paid the 15 gold visit fee to get Addy into the 4th Ring temporarily and gave him 20 gold to pay for a trip to the 4th's hospital.
After that Wade dedicated 5 hours of his day to searching for the missing children both inside the city and on the outskirts of the wilds.
After finding nothing and exhausting himself he decided it was time to check in with Gloria.
So he made his way to the biggest and Best-looking building in the 5th, the Church of Commons.
The building's nothing special but to lots of the 5th it's a Symbol of hope. Wade lands on top of the church and makes his way inside through his usual hole in the roof. After making it inside he looks around finding Gloria teaching 8 young kids how to write and read.
Most parents don't bother teaching this since it's a skill people of the 5th will probably never use but Gloria's optimistic and believes with hard work these kids can move up in the world. Wade doesn't share her hope but having people together in a big group makes it easier to protect them, so he supports her efforts. Plus, even if he thinks she's naive he can't lie to himself, she's a vital part of this Ring.
He Waited in the back of the church for about 50 minutes, he didn't want to interrupt her while she worked and eventually, she went behind the curtain to see him waiting. She didn't notice him at first so let out a high-pitched scream which made all the children behind the curtain to see why. "Ohh the Pink pigeon!" exclaimed the children, Wade wanted to let out a volley of curses but held his tongue out of respect for his friend Gloria then shot her a glare, so she'd get the kids to leave. The kids oohed and awed as Gloria rushed back to the makeshift classroom to color.
Gloria always had a way with people, maybe it's her big turquoise eyes which seem to draw a certain warmness to her or perhaps her face covered in sunspots and stress which showed how she isn't different from the rest of the 5th. And her attire of a tattered white Sundress stained with the colors of the children's crayons and dust. Which makes her feel almost mother-like despite her young age. Gloria was only a year older than Wade Afterall, thanks to the unfortunate circumstance of the 5th Ring she ended up inheriting this church from her parents.
"Personally, I think Pink Pigeon is a more fitting name for you. Your Wings are pink, not red and alliteration is fun." Wade gave her one of his signature shut up looks and she decided to move on from small talk. The two stood awkwardly for a few seconds before Wade pulled out a coin pouch and tossed it into her hands. She looked inside to find 27 whole gold coins, A very substantial amount to someone in the 5th Ring. "Wade the church can't accept stolen money. Please return this to whomever you took it from." She held the bag up to him waiting for him to take it back. Wade shook his head. "Quit acting all High and mighty Gloria just take the fucken money and buy the brats books or something. After all, doesn't ya God say Everything happens for a reason? Maybe I was fated to give ya this Gold?" She Could tell from his gestures and voice, Wade was mocking her religion but still even if she didn't like how he got it, the money would help so she decided to put it in her pocket for now.
" It's your or you're not ya and you're more than welcome to join the Church of Commons Wade. I mean the kicks love how bright and colorful you are, plus I could help you increase your vocabulary so you could stop using so many curses. Of course, you'll have to drop your disgusting smoking habit and wear shirts and shoes but after you do that, I think you'd make an excellent pastor." She gave a warm smile hoping he'd accept her offer.
"Stop acting like a fucken adult Gloria, we're basically the same age. And YA not a nun, ya a girl who lives in a church." Her smile dropped in disappointment. "Have you found Michael, George and Susan yet? They haven't shown up for a lesson in days and I haven't seen any of their parents in a while either." The hawk looked out the window a bit ashamed since in the past week he's been looking he hasn't even found a single clue to the kid's location. "I'm Working on it, I swear. How about you? Ain't you say you were going head to the 4th Ring and ask adventurers for help. How'd that go?" Gloria's expression flipped to one of dejection as she remembered her trip to the 4th. "I told them about the missing children and those hooligans just laughed at me. Honestly, it's like the people from the upper Ring see us as a different species!" Wade punched a hole in the church's stone wall enraged before realizing what he just did and apologizing.
"It's fine Wade just, please no one's going to help us. You're the only person looking for those kids. So please find them."
Gloria was practically begging him at this point so Wade gave her a reassuring hand and told her "I'm the Red Hawk. I'll save you those kids no matter what. And that's a promise."
After making this promise Wade leaped up and flew out the hole in the ceiling leaving Gloria to go back to her teaching.
