December 6, 1993, Monday. After lunch, the "Three Freaks of the East" were chatting on the grass in a corner of the playground.
"We've got no training this afternoon. How about playing top spinning after school?" Li Saipu suggested.
"Sounds great!" Wen Liben and Zhong Luohe chorused their agreement.
"I still feel great when I think about that so-called 'Little Basketball Prince' falling flat on his face yesterday," Zhong Luohe exclaimed with a hearty laugh.
"Yeah, serves him right for messing with us. He even tried to hit me yesterday. If it wasn't for the coach, I would've taught him a lesson!" Li Saipu gritted his teeth.
Just then, they saw Guan Xuchen and a few girls walking towards them.
"Hey, Sissy, what are you doing here? Going to play jumpsies with the girls again? Be careful, you don't want to get appendicitis after lunch!" Wen Liben mocked, and Li Saipu and Zhong Luohe joined in the laughter.
"My name is not 'Sissy'. It's Guan Xuchen. 'Guan' meaning 'close', 'Xu' meaning 'warm', and 'chen' meaning 'morning'!" Guan glared at them angrily.
"Whatever. You little girls should play jumpsies somewhere else. Don't disturb our chat!" Li Saipu responded viciously.
Guan Xuchen pointed at the "Three Freaks of the East" and said angrily declared, "I saw one of you trip Gao Xinglang yesterday!"
Sitting on the grass, Zhong Luohe sneered, "Didn't you hear what the coach said yesterday? We didn't trip him at all. What, is Gao Xinglang your boyfriend? Why do you care so much?" With those words, the "Three Freaks" burst into hysterical laughter.
Guan Xuchen's face turned red as he stuttered, "A-an-anyway, it's not acceptable for you to bully any student from our class!"
The girls echoed in unison, "Yes, bullying our classmates is unacceptable!"
Li Saipu grew impatient, "Enough of this. What do you want exactly?"
Guan Xuchen spoke with determination, "Tell the coach that you tripped Gao Xinglang. And apologize to Gao Xinglang! If you don't, I'll..."
Upon hearing this, the "Three Freaks" burst out laughing and stood up, like three iron towers, blocking Guan Xuchen and the girls.
"Or what, Sissy?" Li Saipu asked menacingly and then mocked Guan Xuchen's tone, "Or are you going to 't-t-tell the teacher'?"
After that, he burst into laughter again with the other two.
Guan Xuchen's face turned red as he shouted with all his might, "Or I'll tell the teacher the other day it was you who took off--"
His voice trailed off as he continued, "That the other day it was you who bullied me..."
Wen Liben smirked, "Bullied you? How did we bully you? Oh, you mean taking off your trousers? But you said that day we didn't take off your trousers. Your 'boyfriend' even apologized to us!"
"You--" Guan Xuchen was so furious that he was speechless and didn't know how to respond.
At this point, a girl with twin braids, glasses, curved eyebrows, and full cheeks stepped forward. She looked up and angrily scolded the "Three Freaks", saying, "Hey, the three of you, cut it out. Third-year students bullying first-years? Have you no shame? You're really big bullies!"
"What are you saying, little girl? Are you asking for a beating? Wen Liben was furious and raised his hand to hit the girl but was stopped by Li Saipu.
"Are you crazy? Hitting a girl? Do you want to get expelled from school?" Li Saipu stopped him in a low voice.
