Hugo wants to spend some quality time with Sofia.

Her slender fingers ran through his soft black hair. With every inhale, Prince Hugo's chest would rise only to fall not too long after when he exhaled. The air around them was filled with silence—a comfortable silence. Using her free hand, Princess Sofia gently grazed his cheek with the back of her fingers. Is this what it feels like to be in love?

Ever so slowly, her light blue eyes took in his facial features. Still, she was not able to find a single flaw in him. Sofia wasn’t sure when in their relationship it had started, but she had fallen for the young prince whose head rested against her lap.

When his eyes fluttered open, her heart skipped a beat. Hugo flashed her his breathtaking smile, revealing the subtle dimple that she adored so much. Prince Hugo extended an arm out in order to block the sunlight from hitting his eyes.

“Ah, what time is it?” Hugo asked, voice slightly groggy as a result from him just waking up.

Looking over at her alarm clock on her nightstand next to her bed, Sofia read the time displayed on the screen. “3:45.”

It wasn’t until she read the time that Sofia began to panic. They were supposed to meet up with their friends in less than 30 minutes. Quickly, she started to gather everything that was scattered all over the ground around them. A low chuckle caused her movements to come to a halt, “What are you laughing at?”

“Why are you in such a hurry?” Getting back into a comfortable position on her lap, Hugo pulled her hands in front of him, and wrapped her arms around his neck. Lightly, his fingertips tapped against the smooth skin of her hands.

She sighed, “We’re supposed to meet up with Clio and Hildegard for a party in less than 30 minutes. If we don’t leave now, we’ll be late.”

“How about we stay here instead of going to that party?”

“What?”

“I’m not one who likes being surrounded by a whole bunch of people anyway.” Opening one of his eyes, The young boy resumed what he was saying previously. “Plus, it’s been awhile since we’ve had the chance to spend some quality time together. You owe me this much.”

Sofia just scoffed at his words, crossing her arms in front of her body. “I owe you? The last time I checked, I wasn’t the one who canceled our plans at the last minute.”

“You’re not still upset about that, are you?” Hugo immediately cupped her face between his hands, giving her an apologetic smile. Sofia had gotten over it as soon as the boy showed up at her Derby match the next day with a bouquet of purple and white roses, but he didn’t need to know that.

“Of course. Do you know much time I spent with Amber getting ready that night?” A sigh fell from her lips before Sofia blew her bangs out of her face. “All of that preparation for nothing.”

When she finished her sentence, the girl realized how she sounded. A flush rushed up to the tip of her cheeks, causing her to avert her gaze from his.

“In that case…” Sitting up from her lap and rising up to his feet, Prince Hugo held out a hand to the girl who had a confused expression on her face. “Let me make it up to you now.”

“You know I was just joking, right? I’m really not upset about it.”

“There’s a lot of truth in joking.” Kneeling down to match her at eye level, he tilted his head to the side, staring into Sofia's mesmerizing eyes. “Even though you’re going to deny it, I know you were anticipating that night and for that I want to make it up to you.”

Hugo placed a hand on her right cheek, caressing it with his thumb. Why did a simple action like this caused Sofia's heart to pound furiously against her chest?

Butterflies swarmed around inside her stomach and Sofia felt her cheeks grow warm as his gaze never left her eyes. Standing up from the ground, she turned her back to him. “Alright, alright. If it means that much to you, I’ll let you make it up to me.”

With a wide smile on his face, Prince Hugo placed his hands on her shoulders and walked towards the carriage that was waiting outside. “Great! I promise that you won’t be disappointed.”

It didn’t matter what the two of them ended up doing. As long as she was with him, she could never be disappointed.
