the library was quiet. you arrived a few minutes early, afraid that sakusa might bail on you if you were even a minute late. it sounded absurd, but you wouldn't put it past him.

you spread your textbook and notebook out across the table, then opened your laptop and set it to the side. you glanced at the time on your screen. it was only a few minutes 'till one. you couldn't help the way you constantly looked around, scanning the room for sakusa. you felt so unusually nervous.

after another minute, you were about to check the time again when the sound of footsteps made you look up. sakusa had walked in and stopped at your desk. he glared down at the tote that rested at your feet with a scowl. "what's that?"

though, he didn't have to ask. he knew what it was.

you followed his eyes and smiled. "snacks. how else am i supposed to focus?"

sakusa shook his head before pulling out the seat across from you and sitting down. he began pulling out his textbook and notebook, sparing you a small glance as he did. "you got me snacks too, didn't you?" he muttered, his eyes shifting back to his work.

"you already know me so well," you smiled, grabbing your tote bag and pulling it up onto the table to showcase the snacks inside.

he looked back up at you, his eyes lingering on the open tote bag, his expression neutral. he tried acting indifferent, but there was a small hint of curiosity in his eyes.

"i wasn't really sure what you liked, so i just guessed," you told him, silently urging him to actually look at what you picked out.

sakusa grudgingly reached his hand inside. he took out some dried fruit and rice crackers. they were simple treats, but ones he surprisingly appreciated.

he let out a small sigh, turning to you again.

"do you like those?" you asked, a look of pleading flashing across your face. you hoped he did, otherwise you spent money for nothing.

"i do," he admitted quietly.

your smile grew wider, the sight almost sickening. it sent an unsettling warmth shoot through his veins. sakusa didn't like the feeling, so he tore his eyes away and placed the snacks down next to him. he made sure they were off to the side, so he didn't seem so willing.

"why are you so insistent? you got snacks when i repeatedly told you not to," he quipped, his tone softer than usual.

you shrugged. "i would feel guilty if i ate my snacks in front of you. now, at the very least, i can say that i got you something, you just didn't want to eat them," you explained simply.

sakusa scoffed, his lips twitching into something close to a smile, but you couldn't see anything under his mask. "so you bought snacks for the sake of not feeling guilty?"

you let out an airy laugh. "are you disappointed that it wasn't a selfless gesture?"

he shook his head, carefully flipping his textbook open. "at least you were honest."

you both settled into a comfortable silence as you began studying. the soft rustling of pages and scribbling filling the space.
