(Tatum's POV) Narration

"Mutation. It is the key to our evolution. It has enabled us to evolve from a single-celled organism into the dominant species on the planet. This process is slow, and normally taking thousands and thousands of years. But every few hundred millennia, evolution leaps forward. But since the discovery of their existence they have been regarded with fear, suspicion, often hatred. Across the planet, debate rages: are mutants the next link in the evolutionary chain, or simply a new species of humanity fighting for their share of the world ? Either way it's a historical fact. Sharing the world has never been humanity's defining attribute.

In order to understand my situation, let me explain from the beginning. My name is Tatum Riley, named after my deceased aunt, God rest her soul. And I'm a mutant. I discovered this eleven years ago when I was five years old and my birthday had just passed and the massacre of Jill Roberts didn't happen yet. One day after school my mom was busy trying to create a new book but didn't know what to write.

She avoided me all the time because of that, I understand that she was ambitious but she could've put more time for me and my father. I was sitting on the couch taking off my shoes but I noticed that they weren't coming off immediately. Luckily, my dad was next to me and he was equally surprised so he decided to help me, but when he managed to get my feet out, we saw something that surprised us big time. My feet were bigger than normal and they were ape-like.

Me and Dad looked at my feet and looked at each other and then I passed out on the couch. Luckily my Dad had picked me up and took me to my bed and he didn't tell Mom because he didn't know how she'd react. While I was unconscious my dad called a friend of his from Westchester New York, Professor Charles Xavier. The Professor wanted to help me study my mutation with a student of his who was seven years older than me, Daniel Eagle.
