I ran as fast as I could, trying to get to the pharmacy before it closed to get my grandma's medicine. In a rush, I ignored the traffic lights as there were no cars coming or going.

Suddenly, a bright white light blinded my vision and the next thing I knew, its was all black.

I opened my eyes to see my mom, looking at me with concern in her eyes.

"Anne! You're awake!" She exclaimed, pulling me in.

"Mom. What happened?" I asked as I pulled back slightly.

She looked at me with sad eyes as I heard the words that would change my life forever.

"Honey, you were in an accident."

"But I'm okay, right? I mean, I can't really feel my legs but isn't that just an after effect of the accident?" I asked, desperate.

"Sweetheart. You've lost your ability to walk."

As those words escaped her mouth, I could see my future falling apart.

"What?" I asked, the words barely coming out.

"I'm sorry, honey." she said, holding my hand.

"I see you're awake now." a woman wearing scrubs said as she enetered.

Must be the doctor, I thought.

"How are you feeling?" she asked.

"I can't feel my legs." I said, scared out of my life that maybe I had actually lost my ability to walk.

"I'm so sorry to inform you about this, but you won't be able to walk anymore." she said, sympathy all over her face.

I immediately passed out.........once again.

I stared at the ceiling, thinking about what I would do now, when a girl, about my age, was brought in.

She looked at me with a smile and said, "Hi!"

Who is this? Why is she in the same room as me? A million thoughts flooded my head as I replied, "Hello."

"Look Hyewon! You've got a friend!" said the nurse, pushing Hyewon's chair.

"Yay!" the girl said, smiling.

"Anne, are you there?" I saw a nurse come in with bags of stuff. "Here you are! This is all stuff your family sent from home."

She kept the bags next to me and I opened one of them to see all my favourite snacks inside.

While Hyewon settled into the bed next to mine, I opened a pack of gummy bears and offered one to her.

"You want some?" I asked, extending my hand.

"Sure! Thanks!" She said, popping some into her mouth.

"So, what happened to you?" I asked, curious as to why she was in the hospital.

"I have leukemia." she said. She was so casual while saying that you would've thought that she just said that she had breakfast. "What about you?"

"I was in a car accident. Lost my ability to walk." I said, looking at my legs, covered with a blanket.

"Oh. How long has it been?" she asked.

"No clue. Might have been today or yesterday." I replied. That was when I realised how long I had been out of it for.

"We'll, if you don't mind, I'm gonna sleep." said Hyewon as she pulled the blanket over herself.

"Alright." I said, deciding to go to sleep myself.

I lay down and closed my eyes, tired from today's events.

(A/n) I would like to dedicate this book to my best friend, Lily, R.I.P. She passed away a   few hours ago when I was writing this. She was suffering from leukaemia and she didn't even live close to me. Hell, she was on another continent. Wherever she may be rn, I wish that she could have stayed with us a bit longer. I love you, Lily.
