QOTD: No one can make you feel small without your consent.

MARCUS:

Three years after the proposal:

"Please stay still, little Love." I murmured as I gently ran a comb through my two year old's hair while she squirmed restlessly. It was time for mummy to come home and I was trying to do her hair so we can head out as soon as Romy comes home.

It was Kit's fourth birthday and my daughter was very excited for cake and balloons. I carefully pulled her hair into a single ponytail and fastened it before showing her the two options for bows I had, "Pink or white, babygirl?" She thought for a minute before she picked out the pink one. I carefully placed it in her hair and pressed a kiss on top of her head and watched her giggle from the mirror.

"You look so pretty, sweetie." I cooed as I turned her to face me. She was wearing a pale pink frock with white flowers and she looked adorable with a giant pink bow in her hair.

"Thank you, papa." She smiled shyly as she jumped from her little stool and twirled in her dress, something she copied after seeing her mum do a final check numerous times for our date nights. Olivia's arrival had caught us off-guard. We wanted to eventually have kids, but fell pregnant unexpectedly. But Romy took in stride and proved she could be an exemplary mother to our child while running her empire. Mel had mostly handed over everything to Romy, and she took a back seat and chose to spend her time travelling, pursuing new hobbies and spoiling the hell out of Olivia.

I stood next to Olivia and gestured to my own fit, which was a very relaxed black short sleeved button down and some blue jeans. "What do you think of Papa's fit, Livvy?"

She nods enthusiastically, "Good papa." and I laugh and pick her up and kiss her cheeks. She was a mini Romy with her dark hair, her button nose and large eyes. The only thing she got from me was my eye colour. She was like Romy down to the way she laughed and pushed her hair out of her face. It made me melt a little every time she did something like her without her even realising it. I heard the front door unlock. I made my way out of Olivia's room with her in my arms.

There stood Romy, in a very fashionable maroon pantsuit. Her tired eyes lit up as soon she spotted me and Liv in the hallway. "There are my two favourite people." She exclaimed as she walked over to meet with her arms open for Livvy.

"MAMA!" My little girl screamed with glee as Romy picked her up and smothered her face with kisses. I could only stand there with my heart full as I watched my girls meet after a long day. This was something I thought I lost forever when I lost Romy.

"Any space in there for Papa?" I asked, clearing my throat. Romy's eyes softened as she hugged our daughter and gestured for me to come hug them. I rushed in and wrapped them up in a bear hug and soaked up their presence. Romy looked up and placed a soft kiss on my jaw. I bent my head to kiss her properly. One moment into the kiss we had to part as we were interrupted by Olivia's endless giggles. We break apart to see her giggling with her mouth covered, smiling to ourselves. Romy put Liv down to go and change while I head into the kitchen to make Romy a quick snack. Livvy busied herself playing with blocks on the living room floor. I kept an eye on her while making Romy a filling sandwich and wrapping it in foil.

I place the snack on the coffee table as I sit down next to Livvy and she begins to babble endlessly about something or the other as I listen to her. I hear the door open about thirty minutes later, Romy steps out in a casual pink dress that extends beyond her knees, her hair in a slick bun.

"What do you think, Livvy?" She asks our daughter who squeals with delight upon realising that they were matching. Romy smiles and I gesture to the wrapped foil as I start to stand and extend a hand to Olivia.

"Come on, Liv. It's time to celebrate Kit's birthday." I say as I hold her hand. Romy grabs the sandwich and undoes the wrap on it and takes a bite as we lock the door and head out. We sat in the car with Olivia babbling about something or the other while I drove us to Andy and Cass's. I take the opportunity to hold my wife's hand and feel my chest ease. I catch Romy relaxing in her seat as I hold her hand. It warmed me to realise we had that effect on each other. I press a quick kiss to her hand. She truly made me whole.

Andy and Cass knew how to throw a party, they made a four year old's party fun for the adults who'd come to supervise their kids. Liv had so much fun that she passed out the minute we put her in the car. We smiled at each other at that and buckled her in before heading home.

I changed first knowing Romy liked to go through Livvy's bedtime. It was their ritual. I snuck out and watched as my wife looked like a fairy in her pink dress as she tucked our baby into bed. She pressed a kiss on Olivia's forehead and turned her little fairy nightlight before closing the door.

As Romy turned around and looked at me, I was hit for the millionth time how in love I was with this woman, who managed to fill my every waking moment with peace and happiness, just by merely existing.

She rose a brow, "What are you thinking of ?" As she walked towards me. I grabbed her hand and gently pulled her towards me, "Just how much I love you." And kissed her softly, feeling my heart skip a beat, as if it was the very first time.

She drew me in, deepening the kiss for a few moments, before breaking the kiss and whispering, "I love you, sweets."
