╰┈➤ ⋆ ★ Some (not so) fun facts about Iwaoi: idk if all of these are 100% canon, but I found them from reasonable sources and did some research!! Some of them are details I noticed myself cause I'm such a nerd for Iwaoi... (and Haikyuu in general)
• First, about the name of the story, Velvet Ring. This is a song by Big Thief that I LOVE and def give it a try, it's so good. (probably most of you know it already) It's the first song in the Velvet Ring Spotify playlist (find it in the first chapter);
• But do yk the meaning behind it? Eliza is selling her body, and Ben knows but he still loves her. "And he is not the only one" is referring to the men Eliza is sleeping with. Toru's not selling his body, but when he moved to Argentina, he tried so hard to escape from the fact that he was still so in love with Hajime. (he tried denying it by sleeping with many other girls, trying to prove to himself that he was not gay, something that was later a mistake);
• Passage from the official Seijoh novel - Iwazumi thinking abt Oikawa:
Staring blankly out the window Iwaizumi mumbled, "... If only he had come."
Upon hearing those words, Hanamaki and Matsukawa's eyes flew open, despite almost falling asleep.
"Huh, by 'him' you mean.. Him?"
"If you say 'him' there's no one but him."
• In their last match as Aoba Johsai team members, Oikawa's last toss was to Iwaizumi;
• Iwaizumi has Oikawa's contact name saved as "Toru";
• They have a habit of patting each other on their backs to comfort each other, especially before games;
• Oikawa was seen wearing Iwaizumi's headphones;
• The term "Aun no kokyuu" was used by Kageyama to describe them, referring to the perfect sync between them. This term refers to two guardian warriors who are so connected that they can synchronize their breaths. (and so is used to refer to harmonious, nonverbal relationships, when two people are so in sync - both in actions and feelings - with each other they almost seem to use telepathy. "They are physically and mentally connected");
• Kunimi thinks that the person Oikawa obeys to isn't the coach or the head coach, but Iwaizumi;
• One of the Japanese dairy product companies is called Waizumilk, and Oikawa's favorite food is milk bread;
• In the last chapter of the manga series, timeskip Iwazumi is introduced having the LIFE-LONG-LASTING PROMISE he made with Oikawa: "Oh. But if we play each other, I'll grind you into the dirt." Oiakwa responded: "Back at you." Then, in the very next panel timeskip Oikawa is introduced;
• Chris Patton, Oikawa's English VA, has made a TikTok about Oikawa telling pick-up lines to Iwa-chan. He also has said he believes Oikawa to be queer and plays him as such, and that Oikawa would get married to Iwaizumi and have two kids and cats;
• Through the series, Oikawa is often called "The Great King", and this official image of him dressed in this attire similar to what Alexander the III of Macedon had worn, and them sharing the same birthday (July 20th), leads me to believe that Oikawa's character is inspired by Alexander the Great;
• Iwaizumi's birthday is the death date of Alexander the Great, matching with Oikawa's birthday which is the birthdate of Alexander;
• Which leads me to believe that Iwazumi is inspired by Alexander the Great's companion, cavalry commander, childhood friend, and possible lover - Hephaestion. (Alexander was said to have been one of the first queer people of history).
