Eli's resolve to confront Athena led him to her apartment later that night. The streetlights flickered ominously as he approached her door, his heart pounding in his chest. Before she could respond, Eli's phone buzzed, interrupting the moment. He glanced down, and his heart dropped as he read the message. "Need you to make the drop tonight. It's important." It was a message from Marco, the name echoing ominously in his mind. "What is this?" Eli asked, his voice rising in disbelief.
Athena's face turned ashen, and in that moment, Eli felt a shift in the air. "Eli, I can explain," she pleaded, but he could already see the truth unfolding before him. "This is what you've been hiding from me? You're still involved in that life?"
In a desperate attempt to regain control, she reached for him, but Eli stepped back, feeling the chasm between them widen. "I can't believe you didn't trust me enough to tell me! Do you even realize how dangerous this is?"
"I'm not doing this for me! I'm trying to survive!" she exclaimed, her voice breaking. "You don't understand what it's like. I thought I could leave it behind, but it keeps pulling me back!"
Eli's heart raced as he processed her words. He felt a mix of anger, fear, and concern for her well-being. "I don't want to be part of this. I care about you, but I can't stand by and watch you throw your life away!"
