CHAPTER 18

"Where is that cocksucker?!"

Madelyn slams the door open and storms inside like a firecracker she is, seething blazing up the roof.

"Maddy, please," I plea, hurrying after her.

"No, Mia, he's gonna answer for his fucking crime. They both do," Madelyn pauses in the middle of the hallway, chest pumping and anger rising. Her head shifts in both directions, "actually they all four are gonna eat shit. I'm gonna line them up and tumble one until they all fall like dominos." her hands balling to fists as pin-straight black hair billows behind her when she picks up her speed again. "What the fuck were they thinking?"

I hurry after her.

"What the fuck was he thinking? What a fucking idiot," she grumbles under her breath. "I was gone for two fucking days and they manage to ruin and humiliate you so badly in one single day!"

Jesus.

Way to rub it in the open wounds.

"It wasn't really like that."

"Really?" Madelyn snaps as she abruptly twirls around causing me to pause just a hair strand away from her. I take a step back at her narrowing eyes. "They managed to mix you into their own shit because they had to cover their sorry asses for problems they chose to do, making you their unwilling pawn in future schemas they sure are planning at this exact moment. They manage to humiliate you in front of the entire school because they see it as fitting because you are too sweet to tell them off and they drag you into a breaking to rave a house?! Well, that ends with me!"

My fingers automatically drift up to the golden hoop in my ear, twisting it over and over as heat climbs my face. It's stupid, I know it is, but the tiny motion is the only thing keeping me from crying in the middle of the hallway.

"Maddy. . ." My throat tightens. Gods, I hate this. Just hate how small I feel.

Her expression softens just enough for me to breathe, but only for a second before she storms forward again.

Now after I told Madelyn most of the truth of what I've had going on because the rumors spreading around me at school was too hard to disguise from her to demand what's going on.

Madelyn listened without interrupting, which made everything literally worse.
The look on her face, the way her chest rose and fell like a breathing bomb, her jaw clenching harder with every detail. . .

By the time I finished talking, she looked like she might actually combust.

Madelyn takes in a sharp inhale. "Oh, I swear to God, Mia. I leave you alone for forty-eight hours and the world flips upside down."

We step into the senior hallway and students literally part for Madelyn like a sea afraid to touch scorching fire.

Her boots click like war drums as she speed walks her way across the hall.

My anxiety clings to my ribs.

"Maddy, please don't-"

"No," she snaps, "because he thinks he can throw you into his mess and walk around like nothing happened? Cute. Very cute. I'm going to peel his face off and make him eat it."

"Oh my god," I whisper.

She ignores me as she continues to mutter.
"Four little idiots ruining her life like it's a sport. I'm killing every last one of-"

Her eyes sharpen on the end of the hallway and then stops abruptly.

Her target.

I barely have time to breathe before a familiar tall figure that leans casually against the lockers, arms crossed over that red leather jacket, with an amused smirk already plastered on his lips.
