Chapter Six: Going with the flow

“Fred, I’m going to ask again and again, where were you last night?” I persisted. It was all I could do to prevent them from talking about me instead.

Plus Rose was in the room.

“I was…. busy, talking to one of my friends about… well, we kind of wore out the topic on shape shifting fight techniques last night… that’s all.”

Rose raised a brow. “C’mon Fred, aren’t we your friends?”

    Fred nodded but kept silent
“Besides, you can’t make us believe what you just said. The chances of finding a shape shifter are 1 in 1000, that’s really rare.
“Well, there are two in this camp actually; one is Dr. Harrison, the hand to hand combat instructor.” I spoke up
“And the other is… who?” Rose teased

Fred shrugged suspiciously “I don’ know. It was Damian who said so….”
She stood up “I’m watching your every move Fred Xavier.” Then she hugged me, putting her arms around my neck.
“Stay out of trouble Damian. And keep an eye on Mr. Elusive here. See you later” she said and kissed me gently on my lips before exiting.
I felt a testosterone surge when she did that, it didn’t allow me to move for some time after she left.
“Well, that was fun. Now I really have to go meet some of my Division mates, talk some stuff… so, bye”

“I’m going with you. There is no escaping.” I said and held his wrist firmly so he couldn’t move away.

He yanked his hand free of my iron grip, and then he made a face at me.
“You’ve surrendered your dignity to a girl. And you expect me to still respect you. I’m disappointed in you Ryzen Wayze.” He finalized

     “Pussy licker,” I insulted
He gasped. Then he started talking in a fatherly voice.
“Damian Ryzen Wayze, I will not tolerate bad language in my presence.”
“Dr. Blowjob, Mr. Cum” I insulted back.
“Fine, that’s enough. You can tag along but only because you asked nicely.”

I just stared at him like how a dog looks at one who just kicked its favorite bone in the sand.

I tagged along as he jumped into his hoverboard and sped off west of the hostel. This was the first time I actually rode one, for I entered the Utility Room of the third floor and selected one of the newer models. When we reached 50 meters west, he suddenly stopped at a corner then sped left. He thought I’d lost him but I trailed him all the way to the end of the long passage, despite all the people walking to and fro around the hostel. That was when I stopped in front of a door marked:
    N/A:  Room 666

I knocked on the door, twice before I heard a female’s voice say:
  “Come on in.”
When I stepped in, Fred as usual was there, but the room owner was a cute girl I had never met before. She seemed slightly underdressed, for someone who was receiving a visitor.

“Damian, meet Diana Florence, our Division’s most expert student, the only one with the super rare shape shift ability. One of the cheesiest girls I’ve ever met too” he added in a whisper.

The girl rolled her eyes; maybe she was not interested in Fred’s formality.
“Nice to meet you, now please excuse us, we’re in the middle of something here.” Her tone was finalized.

“No, don’t be like that, don’t shut him out. He’s my best friend.” Fred argued
“So?” she asked, sounding impatient. I personally don’t think we were going to be working together very much; this was one of those cases where not every friend of Fred was a friend of mine too.

“Don’t bother Fred, if I’m too much of a disturbance, I’ll just take my leave…” I said as I turned towards the door.
“Stay…” to her he said “This is not how you treat a guy who’s so special to me, on the run because your aunt and the rest of the camp authorities keep hunting him down for no good reason.”

“Wait…” she looked surprised “Him? That’s him?” she questioned. That was when she took a long examining stare at me.
“Yep, and if he leaves, the kind guy might decide to remove you” Fred finished.
She laughed nervously. Was she… and Fred discussing about my activities before I walked in.

“So you’re the guy Fred keeps telling me, walked into a hall and then disappears without a trace.”

“Believe what you want, I’m Damian… Wayze” Now I really wasn’t sure I should be giving away my name like that, people like that lunchroom guy or the Division 12 instructor might be tracking me down. And these people would not hesitate to give me the slip.
“Who’s your aunt?” I asked her. It felt right

“My aunt is… the secretary to the superintendent, so she knows the ins and outs…. What so ever.”
Then she disappeared. Seconds later, I saw a hummingbird fly across the room and landed on Fred’s shoulder. That shape shifting ability was really useful.

“So tell me, why you knocked down Grayden in the first place.”

He made fun of me, twice called me names and then hit four desks at my head. Not a very big deal compared to what I did to him.

“I didn’t knock him down, I just paused everyone’s time frame and gave him a beating and walked away.” I summarized.

“What time frame? Look Damian, everyone knows you’ve got contact powers, and the last person in this camp who had that ability, knocked out all the guards on duty five nights ago and stole an ancient map that is said to lead to the long lost time orb. The authorities believe that he’s trying to revive the failed plan of the 2080’s.

I knew this story very well. Did the administrators at Magic High think I could be the elusive criminal that stole their map and is now trying to restore some failed scheme for some power hungry overlords who needed to go back in time… to the 2080’s?

If this was true, then if I told everyone that I had Time control abilities, they would think that their forgotten criminal had succeeded in obtaining the time orb, and therefore everyone should be on red alert, all because of some evil deed I didn’t even wish to commit.

      This suspicion was fuelling itself.
I could either bend it to my advantage or… explain myself and let the story die down.
   I chose the first option.
“I don’t have contact powers, I really am a time control being, that means I have the orb, which allows me to jump through different time frames whenever I want. I think I might also try to do dimension travel too.” I said, then I demonstrated by opening a small time portal, one that my hand could fit through.
The time portal led to some secret gold mine way back in the past. I formed an ice boomerang then threw it into the mine. The boomerang returned clutching a bar of pure gold. Then I took it and closed the time portal.
“Wow! That’s really neat” Diana commented, then she took the gold bar, sizing it up with greedy eyes.
Fred was thinking about how to create a multiplex machine to duplicate objects like the gold bar. As for Diana, well maybe she thought she could persuade me to open up more time gates and getting more. All these I could see in their lustful eyes and grinning faces.
The girl seemed to notice that I was still here, so she gave it to Fred.
“This is amazing and all, but there are some people in this place that would really want your type of ability, some good, others not so good intentions. If I were you, I’d look twice before walking….”
I was already out of there in a flash. Before I left, I kept my phone in the shelf next to the door and hit the camera record button. I don’t know why I did this but somehow I knew I had to.
