LOUIE

With summer arriving, I ended up sticking around town for the season. I scored a part-time gig as a waiter at "Midnight Cafe," a local spot. It was a great way to stay busy, enjoy the summer, and make some cash.

One afternoon, Sandra and I were lounging in her room, chatting about the latest gossip. The conversation inevitably drifted to Derrick, a varsity player from school. Sandra had a massive crush on him and was practically glowing as she spoke about him. And by the way, he was the reason why she joined the cheering squad.

"He's got this incredible smile and his abs—oh my god, don't even get me started."

I chuckled, having heard of Derrick countless times from her before. He was well-known around campus, both for his athletic prowess and his striking appearance. "I've heard a lot about him. What's he like in person?"

Sandra grinned. "He's even more amazing. He's charming and has this way of making everyone feel special. I'm totally smitten."

I hadn't seen this guy yet in person since I generally don't go to any sport play at school but from the way Sandra describes him, he must be really good-looking.

As she continued to gush, I couldn't help but notice how captivating my best friend looked. She wore a short, flirty skirt that accentuated her long legs and a sleeveless blouse that highlighted her radiant beauty. Her hair was styled in loose waves, and her makeup was flawless. I wondered how we became friends—Sandra's allure was undeniable, and I could see why she drew so much attention.

Eventually, Sandra's phone buzzed with a notification. She glanced at it and then looked at me with a mischievous smile. "There's a party at Derrick's beach house tonight! Everyone from school is going to be there!" She exclaimed with obvious excitement in her voice.

I sighed inwardly, already knowing where this was headed. "You know I'm not really into parties. I've got work tomorrow, and I'd rather just stay in and relax."

Sandra rolled her eyes playfully. "Oh, come on, Louie. You can't spend the whole summer cooped up here working. You need to get out and have some fun. Besides, you might meet someone interesting."

I shook my head, smiling at her persistence. "I'm really not in the mood for a party."

Sandra's grin widened. "You know what you need? A little push. Maybe I should find you some hot guy there and get you laid. What do you think?"

I blushed, feeling my cheeks warm at her bold suggestion. "Sandra, you're impossible."

She laughed, clearly enjoying my discomfort. "Come on, don't be such a party pooper. Just come with me tonight. I promise you'll have a good time. And who knows, you might even actually meet Derrick."

Despite my reluctance, Sandra's enthusiasm was hard to resist. Her genuine excitement and the promise of a lively evening persuaded me to agree. "Alright, alright. I'll go. But only because you won't let up."

Sandra's face lit up with triumph. "Perfect!"

As we prepared for the party later that night, Sandra had a clear vision for my outfit. She handed me a fitted sando (tank top) that clung to my torso and some snug, stylish pants that accentuated my legs. I felt a bit self-conscious in the outfit, but Sandra assured me I looked great.

Sandra herself was dressed to impress in a short, playful skirt and a sleeveless blouse that highlighted her striking beauty. Her long, wavy hair framed her face perfectly, and her makeup was flawless. As we headed out to the party, it was clear that Sandra's presence was magnetic. Men around us couldn't help but steal glances in her direction, clearly captivated by her effortless charm.

We arrived at Derrick's beach house, and it was even more impressive in person. The modern structure was expansive, with large windows offering a stunning view of the ocean. The house was adorned with string lights and lanterns, creating a warm, inviting atmosphere. The scent of grilled food mixed with the salty breeze, adding to the festive mood.

Inside, the house was buzzing with activity. Music played from large speakers set up on the deck, and laughter and chatter filled the air. The guests were a lively mix of familiar faces from school and new ones I didn't recognize.

As the night wore on, Sandra joined, a group of girls she knew, leaving me to navigate the party alone. After a few drinks, I decided to step outside for some fresh air and wandered down to the beach. The moon hung low in the sky, casting a soft, silver light over the gentle waves. It was a peaceful escape from the lively chaos of the party.

Lost in thought and the beauty of the night, I didn't notice someone approaching until they spoke, startling me. "Beautiful, isn't it?"

I turned to find a handsome, lean man standing a few feet away. He had a rugged yet refined appearance, with a casual confidence that was almost magnetic. For a moment, I was taken aback by his presence. His striking features and easy demeanor seemed almost too perfect. He looks like a model snatched out from the covers of Vogue.

"You startled me," I said, trying to mask my surprise.

He looked at me with a playful glint in his eye. "Sorry about that."

As I took in his features, a sense of irritation bubbled up within me. He was the same guy I had seen kissing another girl at the beach a while back. That memory resurfaced, and I couldn't help but feel a pang of annoyance. The man's amused smirk only fueled my irritation.

"I guess I'm just not in the mood for company right now," I said, turning to head back inside.

"Nice outfit, by the way," he called after me, his voice tinged with mockery.

I fumed in anger, and, maybe from intoxication, I flipped him the bird as I walked away. The man watched me with a curious expression, clearly finding my reaction amusing.

Back inside, I rejoined the party, trying to shake off the unsettling encounter. I found Sandra with her group of friends, who greeted me with a bright smile.

"Everything okay?" she asked, noticing my slightly frazzled demeanor.

"Yeah, just needed some fresh air," I replied, trying to sound casual.

Sandra's eyes lit up with excitement. "Oh, I almost forgot! I want you to meet this guy I aleays tell you about, you know my Derrick." She whispered the last part, her eyes glinting with excitement.

She led me through the bustling party to where Derrick was standing with a group of friends. I was prepared for the introduction, though I had no idea what Derrick looked like in person. Sandra finally gestured toward the group.

"Louie, this is Derrick. Derrick, this is Louie, my best friend," she said with a bright smile, her eyes glistening as she looked at Derrick.

I turned to face Derrick and felt my heart skip a beat. That man from the beach—handsome, lean, and exuding effortless charm—was Derrick. My eyes widened in surprise. "You're Derrick?"

Derrick's smile grew, and he extended a hand. "Nice to meet you, Louie. I hope you're enjoying the party."

My earlier irritation melted away as I took in the genuine warmth in his eyes.

As Sandra chatted with Derrick and introduced me to more of his friends, I found myself feeling a mix of embarrassment and intrigue. The summer was turning out to be far more interesting than I had anticipated, and I was curious to see where it would lead. Despite my initial discomfort, Derrick's presence seemed to promise new and unexpected experiences.

The party continued to buzz with energy, and as I mingled with the other guests, I couldn't help but reflect on the surprising twists the night had taken. With Derrick now in the picture, I had a feeling this summer was going to be full of unexpected turns.
