"I'm sorry." He whispered as a tear streamed down his face. "I had sent so many of those women to the stake." More tears began pouring down his face as he stared at me. "I didn't even consider that they weren't witches to start with."

"Hey..." I whispered softly, placing a hand on his shoulder. "It's ok, you just need to repent now. Start by saving more women than you have killed." I laced my fingers with his. "I'm sure that the women you save will forgive you for your past."

"Do you forgive me for what I have done?" I nod slowly. He looked up at me with his golden brown eyes and I am transported back in time to the day that I had met him... he was never cruel even when he was against me. He didn't punish those women that were gossiping like he was supposed to. He just smiled and told me to be careful.

"The king is the one who made you a witch hunter from the beginning." I took a deep breath and looked away from him and instead chose to look at our joined hands. "He should be the one that receives hate from the world... not you. You were just his tool."

"One of many tools." He whispers. "There are hundreds of orphans that he has recruited, Mariposa." His finger hooks under my chin and he lifts my head so that I am looking at him once more. "We have to help them too."

"We will." I whisper as I am once again captivated by his beauty. "I will help everyone that I can, I promise."

"I knew you would. I knew you would help everyone the second I laid eyes on you, Mariposa." The way he said my name now made me want to fall into his arms. "You went out of your way to save every single person you could since you had to save yourself."

"At least... I won't have to do it alone anymore." I looked at his eyes, his beautiful eyes. "Right?"

"Right. I will be with you every step of the way." He smiled at me and I wish I could save this moment in my mind forever. "I am willing to go so far as to fight a king at your side."

"We are not going with the intent of fighting the king." I said it with a bit of a laugh. "We are going there to try to reason with him first and if we can't, our main focus will be trying to save Tobias's family, not fighting, understand?"

He pressed his lips to mine before pulling away quickly. "Whatever you say, Mariposa." I leaned closer to him again, pressing our lips together as I breathed in his scent.

"Good."
