Condensation clings to the glass, making it cool and slick as ice shifts, clinking. Silence fills the room, circling us as a strange heaviness falls. I inhale, breathing in the scent of spices and the cooked meat we had all just been eating.

Jonas sits across, his eyes illuminated by the light, looking at Vash. He clenches his jaw, swallowing before smiling.

"You bring up a valid argument," he says, nodding. He holds his glass, running his fingers along its smoothness. "Neither of us is responsible for what we were unable to control. As a logical man, I can acknowledge that, and I am sure you can as well."

Vash swallows, nodding, "Yes. Through logic."

"Through logic," Jonas repeats, inhaling deeply. "But unfortunately, we are not only logical creatures. We are also emotional, and sometimes – maybe even most of the time – our emotions outweigh our reasoning. We are all guilty of that."

The truth in his words is another wave of realization. Jonas couldn't save his mother. He harbors that guilt. Vash can't change his brother. He carries that blame. I survived while my family was slaughtered. I hold that anger.

We are all victims of not just what happened to us, but our emotions in the aftermath.

Jonas's eyes fall on me, and I stiffen. "Do you have any other questions?" he asks, lifting a thick brow.
