A gift.

He stumbled upon rocks as he ran his way to the beach, finding the perfect spot to open the gift in his hands.

"A gift! A gift!" He repeated, yelling while clutching the wrapped box in his hands firmly.

He sat down on the cold sand that windy day. The purple sunset made kaiser's eyes glister as he opened the box.. a football.

Kaiser's mother fell into a tragic accident while making her way to work, leading to his father becoming addicted to alcohol. He's never had any peace of mind. He had no friends in school, hence, no one to talk to. When he came home, his father would scold and beat him non-stop until he's satisfied. He didn't like neither places, school was an escape from home and home was an escape from school. He never had a feel of belonging anywhere.. he would often find himself wandering around the beach near his house after school, making silly drawings on the sand with the same large stick that resembled a pencil to him. it was only through a forest where you would find this paradise. A sandy beach with clear water and calm waves. A place where kaiser felt at ease. His safe place.

He ran through the woods as per usual and saw a boy.. sitting all alone at the beach he'd grown to like. There weren't many who knew this place, mostly fishermen. He was pleasantly.. surprised. The boy was hugging himself tightly, bruises on his face and legs full of scars, mostly healed. He was only wearing a thin piece of clothing despite the cold atmosphere of the beach. Kaiser had social anxiety which led him to avoid talking to people, but it was different with this boy.. he felt at ease even from a far. Something in him wanted to talk to him.

Kaiser went closer towards the boy and found him holding a soccer ball in his hands as he hugged himself.. how odd. He was staring into the mesmerising sky as kaiser slowly went up to him and tapped lightly on his shoulder.

The boy looked behind almost immediately, his face pale, looking frightened. Kaiser was taken aback by this, "u-uh.. hi! My name is Michael Kaiser.. what's yours?"

The boy's gaze softened, "Alexis Ness."

Kaiser's eyes lit up, he felt as if he finally found someone he could talk to, he wouldn't be lonely anymore, or so he thought. Kaiser pointed to the ball Ness was holding, tilting his head as he questioned why Ness was holding it.

"i like to play football.. i'd wish to become a pro player one day.. would you like to play with me?.."

Kaiser nodded, extending his arm to Ness, "from now on, we'll meet here everyday to play football to achieve that dream!!"

Ness hesitated for a moment, but after looking at the determined and hopeful eyes of Micheal Kaiser, he couldn't help but slowly smile and chuckled as he audibly agreed.

Since then, the two boys played on that same beach every day, after 7pm hits and the sun sets as the two watched it together, one of them would leave and Ness would take the ball with him. That was until one of the most special days of the year, October 30th, Kaiser's birthday.

"He's not here today?" Kaiser looked left and right, frantically searching for him, but to his surprise, he was no where to be seen. Kaiser frowned, his head down low. He wanted to spend the day with the only friend he'd ever have. He went back home, feeling defeated and upset. He dragged his feet, not wanting to see his father, but eventually reached at the doorstep of his house.

He paused. There was a box on the doorstep, it was neatly wrapped with a blue rose on top of it. His favourite type of flower. It couldn't be from his father.. no it couldn't. It could only be from one person, the one person who knows Kaiser's birthday and his favourite flower. Ness. He picked up the box and ran to the beach, he ran and ran, his feet swelling up as his slippers began to fall off. He was so overwhelmingly happy about the first gift he had ever gotten that he couldn't care less about what he received. He wanted to open it in the perfect place, the place where he found Alexis Ness.

He sat down.. gently setting down the rose aside and slowly pulling the ribbon. Inside the box was a worn soccer ball. The exact same soccer ball Kaiser and Ness kick every single day. He pondered.. why would Ness give the ball to him? He dug inside the box and found a note, it was from Ness! He opened it and began reading.

"Dear Kaiser, i apologise for not telling you sooner. I didn't want to ruin the happiness of our friendship. I have to move with my family to a more secluded area outside of town. Far away whereas i cant meet you anymore. You were the first person who had ever given me hope in my unrealistic dream. When i first met you, i felt comfort. I'm deeply sorry to be saying this on your birthday. Please remember me through this soccer ball. I hope to meet you again someday."

Kaiser's heart skipped a beat. His hands frozen in place, trembling. His heart not able to keep up with his mind as he broke down into tears, flowing down his cheeks uncontrollably. The only one time he received a gift. The only one time he met a true friend. It ended bitterly and left only sweet memories.

He hugged the gift and swore that it would change his life, "i will make it to the leagues. I will meet you at the field one day. I swear on our friendship. One day we will meet again."
