Maevie rushed into a private room, her heart still racing from the conversation she had just fled. Closing the door behind her, she leaned against it, taking deep breaths to calm herself down.
"What the heck are they talking about?" she muttered to herself, her cheeks still flushed with embarrassment. "Euuuww! Why were they being so loud about it? Thank God I didn't throw up right there."
She paced the room, trying to make sense of the cryptic things her friends had said. "What did they even mean by all that?" she thought, her mind spinning. "Hints? Suggestions? What kind of manual were they talking about? Should I ask Eiden...?"
She paused mid-step, her face going pale at the thought. "Oh no, I shouldn't! If I do, he might think I'm crazy—or worse, clueless! And what if he laughs at me?" She shivered at the idea. "No, no, it's definitely better to keep this to myself."
She sat down on a nearby chair, still trying to process everything. "This must be a... woman thing. Something they all know about, but no one ever told me. Ugh, it's so frustrating! But I'm not going to embarrass myself by bringing it up to Eiden."
As she took another deep breath, she resolved to just forget about the whole thing. "I'll just pretend I never heard any of it. Yeah, that's the best plan. What I don't know can't hurt me, right?" She nodded to herself, determined to move on.
But even as she tried to push the thoughts away, a tiny voice in the back of her mind whispered, "What if Eiden knows about all this? What if he's wondering why I haven't said anything?"
Maevie shook her head, dismissing the thought. "Nope! Not going there. I'm just going to keep this to myself and hope it never comes up again." With that, she stood up, straightened her dress, and took a deep breath. "Alright, time to face the party again. And this time, I'll stick to safe topics—like the weather. Or maybe gardening. Anything but that!"
As she got out side she saw eiden in the door leaning his back against the door "oh he looks stressed"
As Eiden closed his eyes, trying to push away the tension from his encounter with Victoria, he heard the soft click of heels approaching. Maevie was in the room, adjusting her dress as she noticed him standing there, looking visibly troubled.
"Hey, are you okay?" she asked gently, walking closer to him, concern etched on her face.
"Yeah, it's just nothing. Leave it," he replied, rubbing his temples as if trying to chase away a headache.
Maevie wasn't convinced. "Nothing? You look like you're in trouble," she said softly, reaching up to cup one of his cheeks with her gloved hand, the deep red fabric a striking contrast against his skin. She tilted her head to meet his gaze, her touch tender and reassuring.
Eiden's heart pounded in his chest as he looked down at her, her presence calming yet stirring something deep within him. "You shouldn't be like this," she continued her voice like a soothing melody. "You know how important today is, don't you?"
Her words, so soft and angelic, began to calm the storm within him. Without warning, he pulled her into a tight embrace, wrapping his arms around her waist and drawing her close. He buried his face in the crook of her neck, inhaling her familiar scent, seeking comfort in her warmth. Maevie was taken aback by his sudden action, but she didn't push him away. Instead, she slowly placed her hands on his waist, holding him as he clung to her.
In that moment, Eiden's thoughts raced. I don't want this... but you feel like something I can trust, something I can rely on, Maevie. He tightened his grip slightly, his vulnerability surfacing despite his best efforts to suppress it. I don't want to be weak. I don't want you to see this side of me, but your voice, your actions... they make me forget everything. I love you.
The words echoed in his mind, but he couldn't bring himself to say them out loud. Instead, he just held her closer, as if afraid to let go, finding solace in her presence. Maevie was struggling to breathe but she didn't say anything she let him take time. She then thought "Why are you being like this I dont get him is he angry, frustrated, or what why is he hugging me all of a sudden fuck it!! it's confusing me" He held her close for a moment, wanting to break the hug but finding himself unable to. She was so comfortable in his arms that he could stay like this for eternity. But suddenly, Maevie lost her balance, stumbling slightly, and Eiden instinctively tightened his hold on her, catching her before she could fall.
