The Next day

Maevie woke up with a yawn, still lingering in bed. She instinctively turned to reach for Eiden, but as expected, he had already risen early and left. She glanced around the room, feeling an unexpected weariness. Just then, a soft knock came at the door.

"Mam, may I come in?" Rachel, the head maid, called out politely.

"Yeah, come in," Maevie replied, rubbing her face as the morning sunlight peeked through the curtains.

Rachel entered, carrying a tray with a steaming cup of coffee. "Mam, you look like you didn't sleep well. Are you feeling alright?" Rachel asked with concern as she set the coffee down on the table.

Maevie sighed, getting up and moving to the window. She drew the curtains open, allowing the sunlight to spill into the room and bathe her face in warmth. As she opened the balcony door and stepped outside, she noticed the flurry of activity below, with people arranging decorations in the garden.

"Is there something special happening today?" Maevie asked, leaning on the balcony railing and watching the preparations.

"Oh yes, Mam, it's the 30th anniversary of Hillmont & Co.," Rachel replied, joining her at the balcony door. "I thought Sir might have mentioned it to you yesterday."

"No, he didn't say anything," Maevie said, a hint of surprise in her voice.

"Did he leave early this morning?"

"Yes, Mam, quite unusually early. Sir left at 5:00 in the morning," Rachel said, returning to the room to tidy the bed.

"Five in the morning?" Maevie echoed, her brow furrowing. She thought to herself, He must have woken up at four if he wanted to leave by five. But why did he leave so early? Is four hours of sleep enough for him? She stared at the floor for a moment, then murmured, "What a strange man."

Rachel, hearing her quiet remark, glanced up with a knowing smile. "Sir is always dedicated to his work, Mam, especially with today being such an important milestone. The Hillmont family has always celebrated the company's anniversaries with grandeur every ten years."

Maevie turned to Rachel, curious. "Is that so? What's the significance of this celebration?"

Rachel nodded, her expression softening as she explained. "Hillmont & Co. has been a cornerstone of the business world for decades, Mam. Every ten years, the family hosts a grand event to honor the company's legacy and its contributions to society. It's a tradition that brings together not just the business community, but also the family, in celebration of their heritage and accomplishments. This year is particularly special because it marks three decades."
