𝐋𝐄𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐋 𝐕𝐄𝐍𝐆𝐄𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐄

Prologue

'' You need to actually work on your jokes Athena'', My sister, Alena said as her laughter echoed in the outdoor cafe, a few heads turned towards us but Alena didn't seem to mind. That was my little sister, her blonde hair shined and the sunlight made it more beautiful, her light blue eyes shined like it always does and everything about her screamed sunshine, and she lived up to that name.

'' I am actually good at jokes'', I told her with a straight face but the only response I got was another laugh. I didn't dare to shush her because hearing her laugh was like music to my ears. Alena and I are polar opposites. She took after my mother from her beautiful personality to her looks, while I took after my father from my black hair to my mother's blue eyes, the only feature I have of hers.

'' You maybe bad at jokes but one thing you aren't bad at is being the best sister in the world'', Alena said with seriousness in her voice as she stared at me with a full blown smile on her face, my heart clenched in a good way at her sentence like it always does when she tells me I am the best sister or whenever she says she loves me, she's the only person I have left in this world.

'' I know I a'', Alena cut me off with a groan, now it was my turn to laugh. '' Okay I am sorry I won't say it'', I told her when my laughter died down, my phone started ringing, cutting off whatever Alena was about to say and judging by the look on her face she could tell who it was.

Alena hated me being an FBI agent, more specifically she hated the thirst of revenge I had, the hatred I carried and the revenge that woke me up every morning to find my parent's killers, sometimes she pleaded with me to stop all this because one day it will get me killed, she begged me to let go of the hatred and revenge. I never listened, I wasn't like her who forgave those murderers, I didn't have the heart to do that and sometimes I could tell it pained her so much. 

'' I have to go pick up Avery'', Alena didn't bother hiding her disapproval as she stood up and walked away, my heart clenched painfully but nevertheless picked up the phone and stared at Alena's disappearing figure.

Everything happened very fast. One minute I was on a call and the next a car was  screeching away and three gunshots fired. My first instinct was to grab my gun that was underneath my jacket and run after the car, ignoring the people who were running around and screaming but my eyes caught a shining blond hair and that's when I saw her, three gunshots to her chest bleeding to death on the street. 

I ran towards Alena clutching her body to my chest, pressing my hands on her gunshot wounds, she raised her shaking hand to my face, bringing me to look at her even with three gunshot wounds her eyes held that twinkle.

'' It's okay, It's okay'', Alena said flashing me a bloody smile, I pressed her wound harder, shaking my head at her assurance, my eyes tearing up, no she can't die, no she can't. She's the only one I have left.

'' We are going to get you help Lena, hang in there strong girl'', my voice broke with each word, my body shaking uncontrollably and tears streaming down my face and the heartbreaking part was the look in her eyes knowing she has accepted she's dying.

'' I love you Thena, it's okay don't cry my beautiful sister '', her voice broke with each word, coughing up blood and the scene gutted me to my core. This can't be happening, no, no.

'' I NEED AN AMBULANCE,'' I shouted to no one in particular, everything was closing in, my breathing was accelerating, my hands were shaking and the blood was making everything worse.

'' Stop.., I want you to promise me something'', her lips were turning blue, the twinkle in her eyes disappeared, she was dying and there was nothing I could do.

'' Stop talking, you will be here with me until we are old and gray'', I said my voice coming out as a whisper, Alena offered me a sad smile, her body turning cold by the minute, coughing blood.

'' Avery take care of her, tell her I love '', I cut her off with a stern stare, in denial '' You will be there to tell her all that, all of it and for the love of god just save your energy Lena, please'', shaking my head like a crazy mad man but it was clear she wasn't going to make it, she wasn't, she knew it.

'' Give it all up please promise me.. , I love you Thena'', her voice faded with each word and the hand that was on my face dropped and her whole body turned cold, her eyes rolled back and suddenly her body felt limp.

The tears didn't stop flowing, my hands trembled and something inside me died just like that, she's gone, my little sister is gone. Hugging her body close to my chest, I screamed letting my pain be felt through the scream. I screamed and screamed till I couldn't anymore but the tears didn't stop flowing, the pain in my heart Increased with every sob that spilled out of my mouth, I was a sobbing mess.

The only person I had left was gone, she's gone because of me.
