LEAH

The brisk evening air nips at my cheeks as I sit in the driving seat of my sports car, Jacob by my side. The faint scent of French fries lingering in the air. I glance over at him, his face illuminated by the soft glow of the dashboard lights. "Thanks for inviting me out, sometimes I need an extra push to be convinced" I say with a smile, trying to shake off the unease that had settled in my chest. He flashed me a grin, his eyes sparkling with excitement.

"No problem, Lee. I figured we could use some more bonding time."

"Well, because you could convince me, food is on me. My treat."

"Normally I would say no, but you offered so nicely" Jacob responds smiling. It doesn't take long before we arrive at the ordering booth of the drive-through, a kind smile welcoming us. "How can I help you tonight?" We both tell the young lad what we want. It seems like Jason has some kind of hungry parasite hiding in his intestines or maybe he hasn't eaten for days, or it is because I am paying, either way, he seems hungry ordering half the menu. After a few minutes the guy has our complete order, and we continue to the pick-up point.

"This evening is getting better by the minute." Jacob whispers beneath his breath. Right when I want to ask him what he means, I look into some beautiful blue eyes at the pickup.

"Hi again" A familiar face greets us. "Miss spice things up, right?"

"Oh, hi there" I reply somewhat shyly. "Changed jobs?"

"No, same owners. This place was understaffed tonight so I had to change locations."

"As long as they pay, right?" She stares for a few seconds, not saying anything. It is almost getting awkward.

The young lady turns around to get our order bagged as I feel a teasing bump landing in my stomach followed by some more whispering "that's Sammy from the diner the other day" Jacob pushes through his teeth. I turn my head towards him and mouth 'I know' his way.

"Don't let her slip away this time Lee."

"Shut up, I will kill you if you don't shut up right now" I reply rather Annoyed.

"Come on Lee, if she makes a move just go with it" his words are still warm when Sammy returns, reaching out the window, handing over our bags. I take the last bag out of her hands. Our fingertips touching softly, just long enough for me to realize that wasn't a coincidence. The touch of someone else feels rather strange. It doesn't create the sparkling moment you read about in those romantic books. You know, those scenes where the sky turns blue, angels are singing in the background backed up by whistling birds, a golden beam of sunlight enhances the perfect twinkle in the most beautiful eyes of the person in front of you creating an unseen twirling in your stomach. This moment, this touch, mostly caused nausea and a certain uncomfortable, awkward sensation. I think I'm not ready for this yet. This all happens so quickly, too fast to get my head around things. I should really start to figure out what I want to do with my life.

"If we keep meeting like this, it must be faith, no?" Sammy says winking. "Maybe next time I can buy you a drink." Not knowing how to respond, I nod and hit the gas rushing out of the drive-through causing many heads turning to us. As I look upwards, my eyes catch sight of a familiar figure. In response, I quickly push my foot down on my break. Kat. Once again, chatting and laughing with another woman. She looks my way while being fed by her company. A pang of, shall I call it confusion, shoots through my heart as I see them together. How can she be such a womanizer. Who is she? My mind racing with possibilities. They look so cosy, so... together? Is that her date? A surge of anger rises within me, my hands clenching around the steering wheel. How irresponsible... I think I recognize some students around them. She's setting such bad examples. First the lady at practice, now this. Does she want them to become fuck boys? Isn't she aware of the impact and importance her behaviour is around those kids. Maybe my conclusions were correct after all.
