Nightmare's New Home

A/n: also thought about calling this chapter "Nightmare's Castle" or "Nightmare's New Castle"...I also got interrupted nid-way through this, so apologies if it feels rushed

Y/n slowly wakes up, feeling groggy and very tired, their wings aching as they open their eyes, yawning. Y/n sits up and rubs their eyes, yawning.

Y/n: Dream? Nightmare?

Y/n is greeted with silence, so they look around, seeing that they were in a dark grey, yet fancy, room...like they were in a castle of some sorts. Y/n frowns and wiggles off of the bed, their paws hitting the ground softly as their tail flicks.

Y/n: w-where am I?...w-where's Dream and Nightmare?...

Y/n whines softly, not liking being in a new environment without their brothers, so she puts on a brave face and walks out of the room, exploring the large castle. To Y/n, the castle was huge, and while it is true that the castle is huge by itself, but because Y/n is a smol bean, it looks even bigger to her. Y/n's wings flutter nervously as they feel anxiety start to creep up on her, but she tries to keep a brave face, because of she is here, aren't her brothers here as well? Y/n will find them, and then they'll be able to go home and play!...but Y/n doesn't like this game of hide and seek, feeling like they are being watched by the shadows. Y/n shudders and their wing wrap around them.

Y/n: c-cold....

Nightmare, appearing: why are you out of your room?

Y/n bleats in surprise, stumbling, but a tentacle catches them and holds them in the air, causing them to squirm.

Y/n: lemme go you meanie! I need to find my brothers! W-where are you keeping them?!

Nightmare raises a non-existent eyebrow and sighs, rolling his eye.

Nightmare: I thought we've been over this, sister. I am your brother Nightmare

Y/n: n-no! You're lying! Nightmare doesn't look like that! W-where's Dream?!

Nightmare, frowning: Dream is...busy at the current moment, and he will continue to be busy....but I am your brother Y/n

Y/n: L-liar! Nightmare isn't a meanie or scary!

Nightmare, sighing: I have to prove that I am him, aren't I?

Y/n pouts and squirms more, wanting out. Nightmare sighs and rolls his eye, his tentacle tightening it's grip on Y/n, causing them to stop squirming and whine.

Nightmare: fine, I guess I shall prove it to you, oh sister of mine...let me see...oh there's something I could say...me and dream first found you when you were 3, and you popped out of a giant snowflake. But if you must need further evidence, then I shall give it...but you're 4, so I don't know how much of this you remember...but you first discovered your powers over memories when a very mean villager was yelling at me.

Yn tears up and starts to cry, causing Nightmare to panic because 1, he thought he didn't have a soul anymore, and 2, overprotective brother....Nightmare panics and gently grabs Y/n from his tentacle, holding her. Y/n cries more and clings to Nightmare, who is internally kicking himself and cursing himself out.

It's been a few months since the apple incident and Nightmare goat-napping Y/n, but the two, mainly Y/n, are slowly getting used to each other. While Nightmare practices with his new abilities and powers of negative emotions and other things that come with the territory, Y/n practices their own powers, but Nightmare is forced to help them because they're 4. It's...a slow progress because Y/n keeps accidentally looking into Nightmare's mind and seeing his darkest memories, causing them to cry. Nightmare is trying to be patient, yet failing....he's like what, 9 at this point? Both are still children, scared children.

At the current moment, Y/n is staring down Nightmare, who seems less than pleased, but amused nonetheless.

Nightmare: really Y/n?

Y/n: yeah!

Nightmare, rolling eye: I highly doubt there are others out there...and if there are then why didn't they try to help us?

Y/n, shrugging: cause they're meanines?

Nightmare, nodding: fair enough

Y/n nods, their wings and fur fluffing out, still not used to Nightmare's aura of negativity, but they're trying...and by that, I mean distracting themselves with snowflakes...and them accidentally causing a blizzard because they had gotten scared, badly...anywho-

Nightmare: even if there are other people out there, I doubt they want anything to do with negativity and nightmares, and by extension...me...perhaps I could change their minds somehow, but I need practice....

Nightmare studies Y/n, who has now gotten distracted and is now playing with snowflakes. Nightmare makes up his mind, and nods.

Nightmare: alright...I'll test this theory out...and if there are other people out there, well...I need an outlet to practice my power, so why not punish those mortals since they haven't helped us once...

???: Hey! Don't hurt my sister!

Nightmare, rolling his eye: wasn't planning on it...I could use them, but your overprotective brother instincts and feelings carried over to me, so that isn't happening anytime soon...

???: and what if the multiverse theory is true?? Won't others try to take Y/n?

Nightmare, scoffing: I'd like to see them try...but, we aren't in our old home anymore, Dreamtale...so me bringing us here might prove the multiverse theory true...I just need to find a way to access it...this was an accident, the next time won't be...

???: j-just don't let my sister get caught up in this, okay?

Nightmare, nodding: very well...

Nightmare goes deeper in thought as Y/n is now running around and playing in the snow, giggling. What is Nightmare planning and will someone goat-nap Y/n...again? Guess we'll find out next time!

A/n: thank you all for being patient, but school starts for me next week, so I have to change my writing schedule, and because I want to pay attention for my first week of school, the updates will come back the third of september. I'll finish this week's writing schedule off though.
