As the first rays of dawn crept over the horizon, Jack stirred in his hiding place. He took one last swig from his bottle of rum, feeling it's warm burn as it traveled down his throat. With a determined gleam in his eye, he set off on his journey. Silently, he slipped out of the darkness of the abandoned building and into the quiet streets of the town. Every step was calculated, every movement careful, as he avoided any unwanted attention. He stayed close to the shadows of the buildings, his hand tightly gripping his trusty compass while the other stayed poised at the hilt of his sword. His senses were heightened, ready to react at any moment should a soldier or guard pass by. The town was slowly coming to life around him, but Jack remained focused on his mission.
As he approached the grand gates of the General's house, he could hear the faint sounds of bustling activity. His heart sank as he assumed it was a wedding, and his hopes for winning back the love of his life were shattered. But curiosity got the best of him, and he walked past the gates to find a small gap in the garden wall that allowed him a peek inside.
The garden was eerily quiet, a stark contrast to the chaos that had just unfolded inside the building. With cautious steps, he made his way through the neatly trimmed hedges and overgrown flower beds, avoiding any potential obstacles in his path. But as he neared the entrance of the grand estate, his heart dropped at the sight before him. A man emerged from the doorway, cradling Maria's lifeless body in his arms. Her once vibrant skin now pale and bruised, her eyes closed in an eternal slumber. The man's brutish hands held her tightly against his chest, one of her delicate hands resting on her stomach while the other hung limply to the side. He could see the marks of violence on her neck and chest, and his blood boiled with rage at the sight. Any fear of getting caught or harmed was replaced by a fierce determination as he rushed towards her, calling out her name in desperation.
A gut-wrenching wave of nausea washed over him as his heart sank at the sight before him. His body felt like it was betraying him, the alcohol and rum in his system threatening to come up as he stumbled towards her. But before he could reach her, two officers grabbed him and pulled him away as he desperately cried out for her, begging her to wake up and look at him. His entire being was shaking with anger, unable to comprehend how Maria could be dead, after all she had said about only dying in action or on the sea. Jack had always believed that they would grow old together, but now those dreams were shattered. He watched helplessly as the man carrying her moved past them and towards a waiting carriage. With no control over his own movements, Jack was forcefully dragged into General Gonzalo's office, unsure of what was to come next.
General Gonzalo's office was dimly lit, the heavy curtains drawn shut. Jack's heart raced as he took in the sight of the man who was responsible for his Maria's death. The general sat behind his grand desk, a cruel smile playing on his lips. As if it was a cruel joke that not only he took Maria away from Jack but that he also killed her. Yet behind that cruel smile Jack could see anger burning through the man's eyes.
"Ah, Mister Sparrow," Gonzalo began, his voice smooth and calculating. "Welcome. I take it you saw our dear Mariana outside. "
Jack's fists clenched at his sides, his eyes burning with rage. He lunged forward, ready to pounce on the general, but the officers held him back with a vice-like grip.
