Jisung quickly grabbed his phone, earphones, and a shank, because who knew what could happen? He turned on his playlist, playing 'Everything I Wanted' by Billie Eilish. He found the song choice ironic but despite that he decided to check to see if his father was home. He still wasn't back yet. That worried Jisung considering it was 3am. Regardless, he slipped on his shoes and shut the door behind me him.

The streets of his neighborhood were surprisingly quiet, minus the distant hum of traffic and the occasional rustle of wind against the overgrown grass. His shoes scuffed against the cracked pavement as he walked, each step an attempt to drown out the heaviness that seemed to cling to his heart.

He had often thought about how different his life had been before everything changed, but those thoughts only seemed to deepen his sadness.

Tonight, Jisung needed to clear his mind. So he looked for peace in the only place that still held a semblance of tranquility for him: the park at the end of the block. It was a small patch of green, bordered by a rusted chain-link fence, almost prison like. Yet, in its own way, it was an escape from the world that felt increasingly overwhelming.

As he approached, the park's outline emerged from the darkness. The old rusty swings swayed slightly in the breeze, creating a creaking sound. Jisung walked past the empty sandbox and the crumbling slide, heading towards the old wooden bench near the pond. The pond was more of a stagnant pool now, its surface covered with a thin layer of algae, but it was still the place where he came to think.

He sat down on the bench, feeling the chill of the wood seep through his thin jacket. He pulled his hood up and stared at the dark water, the occasional ripple creating fleeting patterns in its murky depths. The night sky above was obscured by a blanket of clouds, and the stars. He wondered if his mom was looking down at him through one of them.

When did it all go wrong?

(Flashback)

They arrived at the beach with wide smiles and excited hearts. The gentle waves lapped at the shore as they spread out their colorful blanket, Jisung's laughter mingling with the sound of seagulls. They built sandcastles, played in the surf, and shared a picnic, their joy evident in every cheerful glance and warm embrace.
(End of Flashback)

He smiled to himself as he felt a tear drop fall from his left eye. He quickly wiped it using his sleeve. He missed how things were.

Jisung sighed, his breath fogging up in the cold air. He often wondered if things would ever get better or if this was the new normal for him. The park, once a haven, now seemed to reflect his internal desolation.

He fished out a crumpled letter from his pocket. It was from his mother. It wasn't long but he found peace in the words she wrote him years ago.

"Have a good day at school son! Mom loves you no matter what. 11/18/2018" the note read.

He traced the edges of the paper with his thumb, feeling the weight of nostalgia and loss.

The sound of leaves crumpling jolted him back to reality. He looked around, noticing a tall figure walking towards the park. Jisung abruptly stood up, pulling out his shank.

"Hi" the strange man said in soft voice.
