In times like this

Weeks passed and the group quietly planned their escape. Which wasn't easy, as they couldn't trust anyone. Not even Mia anymore.

She was a shadow of her former self, most of the time she was silent and just followed orders.

Marjorie paced nervously in front of the hospital wing, she urgently needed to talk to Vivian and right now she had the chance. Most of the Ratcatchers were out looking for resources. Autumn and Reece were there too.

Vivian came out of the door of one of the rooms with Carly. The girl and Vivian had become very close over the last few weeks. Carly learnt a lot from the nurse.

"Marjorie?" asked the black-haired woman.

"Hey, can we talk, it's urgent."

Vivian nodded. "Carly, why don't you go and see Oliva, she wanted to wash some bandages. She probably needs help."

Carly looked critically back and forth between Vivian and Marjorie, but then left.

"What's wrong?"

Marjorie took a deep breath. " I'm late..."

" What do you mean?"

" I should have had my period a week ago.... Viv I could be pregnant."

Vivian looked at her, startled, she grabbed Marjorie and pulled her into one of the rooms and closed the door. "That's not good," she said in a panic. "If Sorscha finds out, you're finished!"

" I know..." Marjorie whispered.

No children. That was the rule. Not until all of London was a safe zone.

"Viv, I need a pregnancy test..."

Marjorie was now sitting nervously in a toilet cubicle, waiting. She had to take the test in secretary. No one was allowed to know.

Her world collapsed when she saw the two lines. She had always wanted children. But not in a situation like this. Now it was clear. Their plan to break out had to happen sooner than planned.

Marjorie tried not to let it show when she returned to Sorscha's office. To her surprise, Autumn was there too. That meant Reece was back too.

"Marjorie, good that you're here. We have a problem," said Sorscha. "Autumn, why don't you tell her."

" A horde is on the way in the direction of the prison."

" A horde? How many zombies are we talking about?" asked Marjorie.

" 200, 300, I couldn't see it that clearly," said Autumn.

"We have to make preparations, make this place safe," said Sorscha.

Carly was on the roof of the prison with Vivian, she had grown herbs up there. Herbal remedies had become increasingly important now that modern medicine no longer existed.

Vivian was explaining to the girl which herbs could be used for what when the door to the roof opened and Sorscha stepped out of it.

"How do you like it here Carly?" asked Sorscha.

" it's nice.. i learn a lot."

" That's great."

Sorscha smiled at her and Carly saw a spark of the old Sorscha at that moment. But it quickly disappeared again when the irish woman's eyes fixed on Vivian. "Can we talk?"

The two of them walked to the far end of the roof.

"What is it?" asked the nurse.

"Vivian, you're the head of the hospital wing."

" Yes?"

" You know what's here and what's going on."

Vivian looked at her questioningly. " Yes?"

" Good, then please explain to me. Why Kate came up to me and told me a pregnancy test is missing. "

The nurse's heart hammered against her chest. " I don't know! Someone must have stolen it. Sorscha please you have to believe me."

"Vivian... Vivian... calm down... everything is fine." She smiled at her and put her hand on the nurse's shoulder. "Mistakes happen to everyone."

Vivian breathed a sigh of relief. But the hand on her shoulder gripped the fabric of her shirt tightly. "But that was your last one!"

" What?"

With a jerk, Sorscha pushed her off the roof. Carly jumped up and ran to the edge of the roof, looking down.

There on the asphalt layed Vivian, a pool of blood already forming around her head.

Marjorie waited for Reece in the cell they now lived in. Everyone in the group now had their own.

" Hey Gorgeous..." he said.

"Reece, sit down..."

The Man carefully sat down next to his girlfriend on the bed. " What's wrong?"

" Reece... I'm pregnant."

At first, Reece just looked at her in shock, but then he smiled broadly and hugged her tightly.

"I'm going to be a father..." he whispered.

But Marjorie couldn't be happy.
" Reece.... how are we supposed to manage that? In times like these... a child..."

He cupped her face. "We can do this together."

But the moment of togetherness was interrupted when Carly stormed into the cell, crying.

"Marjorie! Reece!"

The two jumped up immediately.

"What's wrong?" Marjorie asked, and the girl immediately fell into her arms.

" Vivian... Sorscha killed her..." she managed to say between her tears.

"What!" cried Reece.

Marjorie knew why, Sorscha had found out that Vivian had stolen a test for her. It was her fault.
