After that, Xavier brought me to his house, which was my initial plan—to go to his apartment to deliver the books. He grabbed my arm to guide me through the crowded street. I'm not going to lie, I was scared of people now. We had just been attacked by a monster—I was shocked. We finally arrived, I put down the books, and I looked at Xavier, waiting for him to explain what had just happened.
"I'm going to sleep," he said before laying on the couch.
"Wait, you're not going to tell me what just happened?" I asked, confused.
He patted the spot next to him, signaling for me to sit near him. I silently sat down, still looking at him. He started talking about things I didn't quite understand. He told me that the monster was called a Wanderer and that there are many of them around the city, but I hadn't noticed because I hadn't "woken up" yet.
"But what do you mean by that? I haven't woken up?" I asked, trying to understand.
Xavier put his hand on my shoulder and looked at me.
"Look, this is going to sound strange, but in a past life, I was a knight with only one mission: to protect a boy. His code name is Little Star, and when I met you, I knew you were that Little Star. It might sound weird, but that's the truth. My main purpose was to protect you from this world, but now that you've seen that Wanderer, I think you've woken up," he said in that soft voice he always used, as if nothing else mattered in the world.
"Let's say I believe you," I said.
"I have never lied to you, and I never will," he replied, sounding more serious.
"So, I live in a world full of monsters, my coworker is supposed to be a knight, and I'm his Little Star... Wow." I thought
"So... I brought these books so that you'd actually work," I said, trying to change the topic.
"You're sleeping here tonight, okay?" he said.
"I was talking about the books, Xavier, why do you..." I started to say, but he suddenly hugged me. I was surprised but hugged him back.
"I'm not going to lose you... again," he said, his voice cracking.
"What do you mean, 'again,' Xavier? I've always been here," I said.
And with that, we just fell asleep while hugging. We were both pretty exhausted from the battle earlier. I didn't know what Xavier meant by "again" until I had that dream. It was horrendous.
