I love going on hunting trips with my father. We're usually gone days at a time. My mom would say, "He who hunts in the day, will never starve at night." A simple saying yet it held so much meaning to me.

Today, we're headed back home. This trip was a successful one. Last night, We caught a wild boar. As he was charging to us, my father fell and injured his elbow on a tree stump, leaving a brutal scar. But I took the shot with my bow and arrow, right to the head. He was so proud of me. He couldn't stop talking about it.

That night, over the open fire. While the stew was simmering down, and after we patched up his scar. He told me a story, and spoke to me, with a sort of seriousness in his voice. Most of the time, my father never jokes. But this time was different.

"Ethan.. let me tell you a story. An old tale that.. my father used to tell me when I was your age." He grabbed a wooden bowl and spoon, handing it to me. Before pouring a scoop of stew from the pot.

He began again. "Long ago, lived a Great Powerful King named Lycoan. He was the first king of Arcadia. Believed to be one of the first mortals to ever walk the Earth as well. However, he wasn't the same as every other mortal. Lycoan, was able to transform into something more powerful on every full moon. A wolf-like beast. He was strong like a thousand bears, vicious like a hungry lion, and fast like blowing blizzard winds."

"What was he father? A werewolf?" I asked nervously.

"Precisely. But one day he met a woman. Who was the epitome of beauty. Her name still unknown till this day. Some people call her The Great Mother, Mother of all Vampires, or most knowingly, Queen of the Damned. She wore two faces. On the surface she was sweet, kind, generous to the people of her kingdom. But beneath the surface was a dark woman, filled with emptiness and no sense of morality."

I leaned forward closer to the open fire, my eyes locked into a gaze, imagining what kind of woman this was walking amongst people.
At first I thought maybe he was just trying to scare me. Tell a creepy story about werewolves and vampires while we're camping in the forest on a cold winter night. He started to speak again breaking my wandering thoughts.

"Lycoan fell deeply in love with her, and she fell in love with him. Their love made each other more powerful than ever, feeding off of each other. They ruled with an iron fist with their many differences in background and culture, Lycoan wanted unity amongst all," he stirred the simmering pot of stew, the embers from the fire reflecting in his eyes, "Many years passed on, Lycoan built an army, an empire full of creatures like him, who was loyal to him, but they could not vow their loyalty to the Queen. As she, was a vampire. Then, the Great Mother became pregnant, their love and connection grew even stronger. Word spread throughout the land of Arcadia. The mortals gained knowledge of the pregnancy and began to rise against them. They sought out to kill every werewolf and vampire in Arcadia, which brought the two creatures together, to form an alliance and fight back.
