As I sat in my bed, lost in thought about what tonight might hold, the sound of laughter and chatter broke through my reverie. My roommates have returned, their voices bouncing off the walls of our shared space. I could hear their animated conversation, the cadence of their laughter rising and falling like a lively rhythm.
Just as I was about to get up and join them, a small whirlwind burst up the stairs to my dimly lit secluded area. Caleb, with his bright eyes and boundless energy, flew in like he was on a mission. "You have to get dressed for the welcoming ceremony!" He exclaimed, his face lighting up with enthusiasm. Before I could respond, he dashed off, his laughter trailing behind him.
With a smile, I stood up and decided it was time to get ready. Creeta gracefully flew around the room interacting with the others, they seemed to grow really fond of her. Her wings leaving behind a trail of fiery sparkles.
"Your cardinal must be from the west region of Arcadia," the boy who was snoring earlier woke from his long slumber. "Those cardinals have a special bond with fire. Back at home, my Treeagle would fly around our garden and his sparkles would leave behind trails of flowers when he's happy. I wanted to bring him but his duty is at home helping my mother at the flower shop," he said, hopping from his top bunk. "I better get ready too. The welcoming ceremony has the best food."
The thought of the welcoming ceremony filled me with a mix of excitement and unease. Professor Silvermoon described how it was not just a gathering but a celebration of new beginnings. As I rummaged through my clothes, I couldn't help but feel a flutter of hope that this night would be different for me.
"Creeta would you be okay without me?" I asked, hoping she would come with me.
"I'll be fine, just remember. I'm always with you, and if you need me, just hold onto your necklace and I'll be at your side," she said flying to the bed. "I'm going to rest. Enjoy the ceremony."
Once I finally dressed, I stepped into the common area where the orange hair boy and another roommate were hanging out. The boy who spoke to me earlier about his Treeagle, caught my eye first; his bright orange hair practically glowed in the dim light of the room. He had a contagious energy about him—his laugh came easily, and it seemed like he always had some clever quip ready to share. "Hey there! You ready to have some fun or what?" He said, giving me a wide grin. "I'm Tyler Lovett and this guy is Takoda Lupin, we're both First Shifters." Takoda standing beside him, nodded in acknowledgment. He had a presence that was simultaneously imposing and warm, his background from ancient wolf tribes evident in the way he carried himself. He had a calm demeanor, but I could tell there was strength beneath the surface—something far deeper than most carried. "Glad to see you joining us," he said, his voice deep and steady like a quiet river.
