That night

I gazed at my reflection in the mirror, taking in the full picture of my appearance. My long, wavy hair cascaded down my shoulders, each strand shimmering with subtle elegance. A touch of natural lipstick accentuated my lips, while a carefully applied eyeliner framed my eyes with a hint of allure. I brushed a light blush across my cheeks, adding a soft, rosy glow. With a final adjustment to my little black dress, I felt a surge of satisfaction.

I glanced at my phone, noting that Aurora would arrive any moment. As I prepared to text her, the sound of a car pulling into the driveway caught my attention. She was here.

The door swung open, and Aurora stepped in, her eyes widening in admiration. "Wow, Meg, you look hot," she exclaimed, her gaze sweeping over me appreciatively.

I returned the compliment with a smile. "You look hot too. I figured if we're going to do this, we might as well do it right."

"That's the spirit I was hoping for," Aurora replied with a grin. "Let's go; the night is ours to conquer."

We arrived at the club, and a host guided us to our reserved table, the vibrant energy of the venue enveloping us. I turned to Aurora with a mischievous grin. "Remind me to thank you for doing this."

She laughed softly. "Oh, you have plenty to thank me for," she teased.

"Honestly," I began, "I wasn't in the mood for celebration, but now that we're here, I'm actually feeling good about it. Thank you. You know I love you."

"I love you too, you silly thing. Now, let's have a drink. Tonight's on you, after all."

With a chuckle, I made my way to the bar to order. The place was packed, the noise a cacophony of laughter and music, making it nearly impossible for the bartender to hear me. I stood on tiptoe and shouted my order, "Two gin and tonics, please!" The bartender, finally catching my request, nodded and responded, "Coming right up."

As he handed me the second glass, just as I was about to turn back to our table, a body collided with me. The impact jolted me, causing my glasses to scatter across the floor.

"I'm so sorry," the stranger said urgently, as he helped me regain my balance while my drinks spilled around us. "I didn't see you; it's so crowded here."

"Don't worry about it," I replied, brushing off the mishap. But then I looked up at him. His face was a mix of frustration and genuine concern. His dark eyes locked onto mine, filled with an intense, worried gaze.

"Please, let me make it up to you," he said earnestly. "Where are you sitting?"

"No, really, it wasn't your fault," I reassured him.

"What were you having?"

"Gin and tonic."

"Wait for me at your table," he said with determination.

I nodded and returned to my seat, intrigued and slightly amused by the unexpected turn of events.

Aurora's voice cut through the din of the club, laced with curiosity. "Where are the drinks?" she asked, her brow furrowing slightly.

"Coming, I think," I replied, though I was uncertain how he would find us in the sea of people. My attention was caught by a figure weaving through the crowd, tall and striking. He was undeniably attractive, his presence commanding, and my heart skipped a beat as I watched him approach.

"Focus, you're staring," I chided myself internally, trying to regain composure.

As he neared our table, he extended the drinks with a warm smile. "Here are your drinks. And once again, I'm really sorry for earlier."
