✧.* chris is your worst nightmare but he loves a challenge.
✧.* enemies.
y/n had always hated chris. ever since middle school, he had been the thorn in her side. he was cocky, always pushing her buttons, and his laughter seemed to echo through her mind on the worst days. with his two brothers, matt and nick, always backing him up, it felt like chris was practically a part of her life in the worst way possible.
on the other hand, chris saw y/n as a challenge. she had this fire in her that he couldn’t ignore, it intrigued him, even if he tried to act like he didn’t care. every snarky comment she threw his way made him want to tease her even more. it was a classic enemies-to-lovers setup, but neither of them could see that coming.
one afternoon, y/n was hanging out with her best friend amber at their favorite coffee shop. they were giggling over shared secrets when, of course, chris walked in, laughing with his brothers. y/n felt her gut twist into a knot. why couldn't he just go away?
“is he really here right now?” y/n said, rolling her eyes as chris spotted her and smirked.
“maybe you should say hi!” amber nudged, “i mean, it’s been a while since you’ve gone head-to-head.”
“shut up.” y/n replied, her cheeks heating up. deep down, she knew amber was right. maybe it was time to confront chris and put an end to their awkward rivalry once and for all.
sighing, y/n stood up, her heart racing as she walked over to chris, “what do you want, chris?” she snapped, crossing her arms to keep her nerves in check.
“oh, nothing much, just enjoying my day, and you’re giving me a show.” he replied with that infuriating grin. she hated how good he looked when he smiled.
his hair was tousled and messy, but he made it look so attractive. no one lese could pull of the distinct look he has, it's truly impossible.
“yeah? well, maybe your show is about to end.” y/n turned to leave, but she heard him call after her.
“don’t you think it’s kind of boring to hate me all the time?” he asked, his voice suddenly softer, more serious.
that caught y/n off guard. she turned back to him, “boring? you give me plenty of reasons to hate you.” she said, her heart beating faster.
she thought she would always have a reason to dislike him, but somehow, that didn’t seem right anymore.
“or maybe it’s just easier to keep pretending you don’t like me.” he shot back, and for a moment, they just stood there, locked in a heated gaze. y/n could feel the tension sizzling between them, and although she wanted to deny it, there was something exciting about it.
amber watched from a distance, barely holding in her amusement. she knew there was more to this story than they both cared to admit.
over the next few weeks, chris and y/n found themselves forced to work together on a school project. at first, it was pure chaos. they bickered constantly, tossing ideas at one another like they were throwing daggers. but as they spent more time together, something shifted. y/n began to see the side of chris that wasn’t just a bully, he was funny and smart. and, if she was being honest, a little bit sweet.
one late night, after a long study session at y/n’s house, they were sitting on the floor, surrounded by books and takeout boxes. chris leaned back against the wall, looking tired but happy.
“you know, it’s not so bad working with you.” he admitted, glancing over at her.
“you mean working with the best?” she teased, but she felt her heart flutter, “i get it, i’m amazing.”
“sure, we can go with that.” he chuckled. but there was something different about the way he looked at her, something soft. y/n couldn’t help the smile that crept onto her face.
after a few more weeks passed, y/n and chris drifted closer. they laughed more, fought less, and something new sparked between them. one night, as they were finishing up their project, the moment felt electric. chris paused and looked at her, his eyes searching hers.
“can i ask you something?” he said, his voice low.
“yeah, what is it?” y/n replied, holding her breath.
“do you really hate me?” he questioned, a tinge of vulnerability breaking through his confident facade.
y/n hesitated, her heart pounding. “i thought i did, but it turns out…maybe i don’t.” the words hung in the air, and chris moved closer, his gaze intense.
then, without thinking, y/n leaned in, bridging the gap between them. their lips met in a soft, tentative kiss that quickly turned deeper. everything they had fought about melted away in that moment. it was electric and magnifying; so delicate if they made a wrong move they would shatter.
when they finally pulled apart, chris grinned widely, and y/n couldn’t help but blush. maybe being enemies wasn’t so bad if it ended up like this. she felt like she was teetering on the edge of something beautiful, something she had been fighting for so long.
“so, we’re not enemies anymore?” chris asked playfully, his eyes sparkling.
“guess not,” y/n replied, her heart soaring, “but don’t think this means i’m going to let you off easy.”
and just like that, what started as a rivalry became the most unexpected love story. y/n never would’ve believed it, but somehow, chris went from the enemy she couldn’t stand to the one person she couldn’t imagine being without.
