Title: Rekindling What Was Lost

---------------------------------------------------------------

The hospital was bustling with its usual rhythm—nurses rushing from one room to another, doctors in crisp white coats flipping through patient charts, and the steady beep of monitors filling the air. You had become used to this environment, the controlled chaos of it all. It was where you thrived, where you had made a name for yourself as one of the top doctors in the city. But today, something felt different, like a shift in the atmosphere that you couldn't quite place.
You pushed the thought aside, focusing on the task at hand. The day was packed with consultations, surgeries, and meetings. You barely had time to think about anything else. But as you were about to head into another consultation, your phone buzzed in your pocket. You pulled it out and glanced at the screen. It was a message from an old friend—one you hadn't thought about in years.
"Hey, Y/N. I'm back in town. Would love to catch up. Can we meet tonight?"
Your heart skipped a beat at the sight of the name. Hueningkai. The boy who had been your best friend, your partner in crime, and the one you thought would be by your side forever. But that was before he moved away, before life took you both in different directions. You hadn't heard from him in years, not since he left for another city with his family.
You stared at the message for a long moment, memories flooding back. You and Hueningkai had been inseparable growing up, always getting into trouble together, sharing dreams and secrets. But when he moved away, you lost touch. At first, you tried to keep in contact, but with time, the calls and messages became less frequent until they eventually stopped altogether. Life had a way of moving on, and so did you.
But now he was back. And he wanted to see you.
With a deep breath, you typed out a response. "Sure, I'd love to catch up. Where should we meet?"
His reply was almost instant. "There's a café near your hospital. I'll send you the address."
You pocketed your phone, your mind racing. What would he look like now? Would he still be the same Hueningkai you remembered, or would he be different? And more importantly, how would you feel when you saw him again?
The rest of the day passed in a blur. You went through the motions, but your thoughts kept drifting back to Hueningkai. When the day finally came to an end, you hurried to the café, your heart pounding with a mix of excitement and nerves.
The café was cozy and warm, a stark contrast to the sterile environment of the hospital. You pushed open the door, the bell above jingling softly, and scanned the room. And then you saw him.
Hueningkai was seated by the window, his attention focused on a cup of coffee in front of him. He looked different—taller, broader, more mature—but there was something unmistakable about him. Maybe it was the gentle curve of his lips or the way his eyes crinkled at the corners when he finally looked up and saw you.
"Y/N," he said, standing up with a smile that was both familiar and new.
"Hueningkai," you replied, your voice a little breathless. You walked over, and before you knew it, he was pulling you into a hug. It was warm and comforting, like slipping into a memory.
"It's so good to see you," he said as he pulled back, his hands still resting on your shoulders.
"You too," you managed, trying to steady your racing heart. "It's been so long."
"Too long," he agreed, motioning for you to sit down. "You look... amazing, Y/N. A successful doctor now, huh?"
You laughed, feeling a blush creep up your cheeks. "Yeah, I guess I am. And you—look at you, CEO of your own company. I always knew you'd do something big."
He chuckled, a soft, melodic sound that you'd missed more than you realized. "I guess we both made it, huh?"
There was a brief pause, the weight of the years that had passed between you settling in. But it wasn't uncomfortable. Instead, it was filled with a sense of nostalgia, of what could have been and what still might be.
"So," Hueningkai began, leaning back in his chair, "how have you been all these years? I can't believe we lost touch like that."
You smiled, though there was a hint of sadness in it. "Life happened, I guess. After you moved, things got busy. I went to med school, did my residency, and then I just... kept going."
He nodded, his expression thoughtful. "Yeah, I know what you mean. Moving away was hard. I tried to keep up with everyone, but then the business started taking off, and I got caught up in that world."
You looked at him, seeing the boy you used to know in the man he had become. "I'm glad you're doing well, though. You deserve it."
"So do you," he said softly, his eyes meeting yours. There was a warmth in his gaze, something that made your heart flutter just like it used to.
For the next hour, the two of you talked, catching up on everything you'd missed in each other's lives. You laughed about the old times, the mischief you used to get into, and the dreams you had as kids. It was like no time had passed at all, like you were still the same best friends you'd always been.
But as the conversation lulled, you both grew quiet, a comfortable silence settling between you.
"I missed this," Hueningkai admitted, his voice low. "I missed us."
You looked at him, your heart aching with the truth of his words. "Me too. I didn't realize how much until now."
He reached across the table, his hand brushing against yours. It was a simple gesture, but it spoke volumes. "Do you think... we could pick up where we left off? Maybe start again?"
You looked at him, seeing the vulnerability in his eyes. The years apart had changed you both, but there was still something there, something that had never really gone away."I'd like that," you said, your voice soft but steady. "I'd like that a lot."
Hueningkai smiled, a genuine, happy smile that made your heart swell. "Then let's not waste any more time.
"As you left the café together, walking side by side into the night, you couldn't help but feel that this was the beginning of something new, something beautiful. The years had taken you apart, but they had also brought you back together. And this time, you weren't going to let anything come between you.
