The drive out of the city was quiet, the only sound between them the low hum of the car's engine and the occasional rush of wind through the open windows. Olivia leaned back in her seat, letting the fresh air and the rhythmic motion of the car soothe her frayed nerves. Beside her, Sam drove with one hand on the wheel, the other resting on the console between them, close enough that their fingers occasionally brushed against each other.

As they left the tall buildings and crowded streets of Miami behind, Olivia felt the tension in her shoulders begin to ease. The open road stretched out before them, leading to the promise of peace and quiet—exactly what she needed after the emotional turmoil of the morning.

"Where are we going?" she asked softly, breaking the comfortable silence between them.

Sam glanced over at her, a small smile playing on his lips. "You'll see. It's a place I go when I need to clear my head. I think you'll like it."

Olivia nodded, trusting him to lead her wherever he thought was best. She had no idea where they were headed, but the thought of being somewhere quiet, away from the chaos and the memories that had been stirred up, was enough to calm the storm brewing inside her.

They drove for nearly an hour, the city giving way to the lush greenery of the countryside. The landscape around them changed gradually, the flat, urban sprawl replaced by rolling hills and dense forests. Olivia watched the scenery pass by, her mind slowly unwinding as the miles stretched out behind them.

Finally, Sam turned off the main road onto a narrow, tree-lined path that led deeper into the woods. The car bumped along the gravel road, the canopy of leaves above them casting dappled shadows on the ground. Olivia's curiosity piqued as they continued down the winding path, the dense forest surrounding them on all sides.

After a few minutes, the trees began to thin, and the path opened up into a clearing. Olivia's breath caught in her throat as she took in the sight before her—a secluded lake, its surface smooth as glass, reflecting the vibrant green of the trees and the deep blue of the sky. A small, rustic cabin sat at the edge of the water, nestled among the trees, with a wooden dock stretching out into the lake.

Sam parked the car near the cabin and turned off the engine. For a moment, they sat in silence, taking in the serene beauty of the place. The only sounds were the soft rustle of leaves in the breeze and the distant call of a bird, the peacefulness of the scene wrapping around them like a warm blanket.

"This is beautiful," Olivia whispered, her voice filled with awe. "How did you find this place?"

Sam smiled, the tension that had lingered in his eyes since the encounter with Mark finally beginning to fade. "A friend of mine owns the cabin. He lets me use it whenever I need to get away. It's the perfect place to just... breathe."

Olivia nodded, feeling a sense of peace settle over her as she took in the tranquil surroundings. "Thank you for bringing me here," she said softly, her heart swelling with gratitude.

Sam reached over and took her hand, his thumb brushing gently over her knuckles. "You don't have to thank me, Olivia. I'm just glad I could be here for you."

They got out of the car and made their way down to the edge of the lake, the soft crunch of gravel underfoot the only sound in the quiet afternoon. The air was warm and fragrant with the scent of pine and wildflowers, and Olivia felt her spirits lift with each step she took.

They walked out onto the dock, the wood creaking slightly under their weight, and Olivia knelt down at the edge, dipping her fingers into the cool, clear water. The lake was so still, so peaceful, that it felt like they were the only two people in the world.
