A/N: It's not a party without drama.. :)
The party is in full swing, the bass from the music thumping through the walls as people mingle, laugh, and dance. I'm outside by the pool, enjoying the cool night air, when the front door swings open, and I see Lexi strut in with her usual entourage, Megan, Sarah, and Jenna, trailing behind her.
Lexi's arrival isn't subtle. She's dressed to kill, her blonde hair perfectly styled, and her entourage is just as polished, all of them radiating that effortless, confident energy that comes with being the most popular girls in school. Heads turn as they make their way through the crowd, Lexi's gaze scanning the room like she owns the place.
I can't help but feel a twinge of annoyance as I watch her. I glance over at Brett, who's still outside with me, sitting on a lounge chair by the pool. He hasn't noticed Lexi yet, but it won't be long.
Blaine is inside, chatting with some of his friends or whatever they are, and for a moment, I wonder if Lexi's appearance is going to stir up trouble. Sure enough, she makes her way straight to the backyard, her eyes locking onto Brett as she approaches. She flashes a bright smile, but there's a sharpness to it, a calculated edge that sets me on alert.
"Brett!" Lexi calls out, her voice sugary sweet as she moves closer.
"I've been looking for you."
Brett looks up, surprised to see her, but he smiles politely.
"Hey, Lexi. Didn't know you were coming."
Lexi waves a hand dismissively, her laugh light and carefree.
"Oh, you know me. Can't miss a good party." She casts a quick glance around, her eyes narrowing slightly when she doesn't see Blaine nearby.
"So, where's your little... friend? Blaine, right?"
I feel my jaw tighten at the way she says it, like Blaine is somehow beneath her. Brett's smile falters just a bit, but he shrugs it off.
"He's inside, talking with some of the guys and he is not just my friend, he's my boyfriend".
Lexi's smile doesn't waver, but there's something almost predatory in her eyes.
"Oh, how cute. You know, Brett, I was thinking... it's been a while since we've hung out—just the two of us. We should catch up, maybe later tonight?"
She steps closer to Brett, her hand lightly brushing his arm in a way that's far too familiar. I can see Brett tense slightly, clearly uncomfortable with her forwardness. I'm about to step in, but before I can, Brett gently pulls his arm away, keeping his tone polite but firm.
"Thanks, Lexi, but tonight's about celebrating with the team," Brett says, his voice steady.
"And that is inappropriate, I'm dating someone"
Lexi's eyes flash with irritation, but she quickly covers it with another bright smile.
"Of course, of course. Just thought I'd offer." She casts a quick glance in my direction, her eyes narrowing slightly.
"And Aiden, nice to see you too. You're looking handsome as well."
"Thanks, Lexi," I say, forcing a polite smile. My voice is flat, but I'm trying to keep my irritation in check. I'm not in the mood for her games.
She doesn't linger on me, though. Her gaze shifts back to Brett, and I can see the calculation in her eyes. She's not used to being brushed off, and I know she's not going to let this go easily.
"But, Brett," Lexi says, her tone casual but with a hint of challenge,
"People talk you know."
Her words are laced with condescension, and I can feel the tension rising. Brett's jaw tightens, but he keeps his cool.
