A/N: So, we're going back to school...with the drama and all.
The hallways are buzzing with the usual whispers and murmurs of students, as they look my way, everyone still on about what happened at Megan's party. I head over to my locker, spinning the combo like it's second nature. The familiar clatter of metal as I pop it open feels comforting after the craziness of the weekend. As I start grabbing my books, my mind keeps drifting back to Brett, the night of the party, the confession, the talk with my parents, and everything that went down.
I'm pulled out of my thoughts by the sound of heels clicking on the tile. I glance up and see Megan strutting over, her usual confident smile already hinting that she's got something up her sleeve.
"Hey, Aiden!" she greets, leaning casually against the locker next to mine. Her smile's bright, and there's that mischievous glint in her eyes.
"So, that party at my place? Definitely sparked some rumors about you and Brett."
I pause, halfway through pulling out a book, and glance at her.
"Yeah, figured it might," I say, trying to play it cool, but I can't help the little smile tugging at my lips.
"On the way here, someone said that Brett and I had a fist fight."
She chuckles and tilts her head, then she gives me a knowing look.
"Sooo... did you guys fix your little issue? Or are the rumors true?"
I can't help but grin at that.
"We did," I say, the warmth of the weekend coming back to me. "We're good now, more than good."
Her eyes light up, and she grins wide.
"Boyfriend alert!" she whispers, sing-songing the words in a teasing but friendly way.
"You know, Aiden, I was starting to think you two were just playing hard to get." she says, trailing her finger on my shoulder. I can't help but chuckle at what the fuck she's doing.
Before I can respond, her gaze shifts to someone behind me. I don't even have to turn around to know who it is. I can feel Brett's presence like a change in the air. Megan's smile turns sly as she straightens up, her eyes sparkling with mischief.
"Speak of the devil," she says, her voice dripping with flirtatious play as Brett approaches.
"Hey, Brett," she greets him, batting her eyelashes in this exaggerated, over-the-top way.
Megan's doing her thing, stirring the pot just to see how Brett reacts. She knows how possessive he can get. I decide to roll with it.
"Careful, Megan," I say, matching her playful tone.
"Brett's the jealous type."
Brett steps up next to me, his expression shifting as he catches Megan's flirty grin. Without missing a beat, he wraps an arm around my waist, pulling me tight against his side. The move catches me off guard, and I have to bite the inside of my cheek to keep from laughing.
Megan's eyes flick back and forth between us, her grin widening as she takes in Brett's reaction.
"Wow, Brett," she teases, her voice all mock innocence.
"Aren't you gonna say hi?"
Brett's eyes narrow a bit, but he doesn't say a word. He just glares at her, his hold on me tightening a little more.
Megan, totally unfazed, keeps going.
"So protective," she teases, eyes twinkling. "It's kinda cute."
