Lost In The Woods. - A Jori Story

Chapter 2

The girls bid goodbye to their teacher and friends to let them know that they were going now.

"We'll probably be back in about 20 minutes" Jade said and Sikowitz gave her a thumbs up.

As they walked into the woods they picked up little sticks and big sticks along the way, Jade using her flashlight to look at the ground. "Jade don't you think we're travelling a bit far? Maybe we should just turn back" Tori said, she was nervous. It was 10:00pm and they were alone in the middle of the woods. Who wouldn't be nervous about that? "Stop being such a cry baby Vega, we're fine. Enjoy the nature for once. Ur always on ur damn phone. What? You can't be away from it for 10 minutes without freaking out?" Jade asked in a sarcastic tone. Jade wasn't scared at all, in fact she loved it. Her parents would never allow her to do this, so she was enjoying the freedom. Although, it was hard to enjoy when the girl she was partnered with was a nervous wreck. Plus, they had a flashlight.. Tori was acting like it was completely dark.

"Uh oh..."

Tori whipped her head around to look at Jade "what? What happened? Where did you go?" She asked in a panic. "Jade? Answer me!" She demanded. "Uh Tori... the batteries died on my flashlight" Jade said, still remaining calm. It wasn't the batteries dying that worried her, it was the reaction of the already scared brunette she was worried about. "That's alright we can just use my phon- oh wait, i didn't bring my phone because YOUUU insisted i didn't need it. Way to go Jade." Tori said, giving Jade a fake round of applause. "Please tell me you at least know the way back... you know the way back, right?" Tori asked, her already spiked nerves spiking up more.

"Uh, yeah. Follow me" Jade said, grabbing Tori's wrist as it was pretty much impossible to see anything out there. "If we keep walking straight in the direction we came from, we should be back at the campsite in no time." Jade said with confidence. she wasn't entirely confident, in fact she was just guessing which direction they came from. "Okay Jade, i trust you" Tori said quietly, causing Jade to stop dead in her tracks.

"You trust me?"

"Yeah."

"Why?"

Tori went silent, she didn't know why she trusted Jade. But Jade is pretty damn smart, and she's sure that she has been in much more difficult situations than this. "Because you're smart." Tori admitted. Jade didn't say anything but hearing Tori call her smart gave her a bit more confidence than she had before.

They continued walking for 30 minutes before realizing they were getting no where. "I think we're lost." Jade huffed, sitting down by a tree. "My feet hurt, i can't walk anymore. Maybe we should just continue this in the morning, when we can see." She said, throwing her head back against the tree and closing her eyes.

Tori was scared, she didn't wanna stay out in the woods all night and she knew she wouldn't get any sleep out there. As Jade closed her eyes and fell asleep, Tori sat with her back against the tree and her knees tucked to her chest. She analyzed every noise she heard and as the night grew darker, she became more and more scared. Her eyes began to burn up with tears. She knew her and Jade were getting out of there in the morning... but what if they don't? What if they were lost? Tori put her head into her knees and broke into a sobbing mess, unable to hide her fear anymore. Not that she was great at hiding it in the first place.

Jade slowly woke up to the sounds of crying and immediately rolled her eyes. "Jesus Vega, you woke me up. What is your issue?" Jade asked in an annoyed-sleepy tone. "I'm scared Jade, I'm so so scared" Tori sobbed, rocking back and forth in a ball.

Jade didn't want to, but she knew she had to comfort the girl. It wasn't fair of her to invalidate Tori's feelings. Just because she's not scared, doesn't mean Tori shouldn't be. They're lost in the woods, any normal person would be scared. Jade sighed and looked at Tori "look, Vega. We're gonna be fine, alright? I'll get us out of here first thing tomorrow. You need to sleep to save energy for the walk. Plus, I'm sure Sikowitz and the group will be looking for us. We're gonna be fine, okay?all you gotta do is trust me." Jade said, wiping a tear from the latinas cheek. "Thanks Jade. I guess you're right, i should get some sleep" she said as she calmed down, yawning with a stretch.
"lie down" Jade said, moving Tori to the ground. "Here, to keep you warm". She said as she placed her jacket around the scared brunette. "Close your eyes, I'll stay with you till you fall asleep." She assured her, tucking a piece of hair behind Tori's ear.
