New Romantics {Oscar Piastri} (Swift Series Book 1)

Chapter 23

The run down to turn one is very long but I slowly inch ahead of Max as we head towards the first turn. I brake slightly later than Max for the corner and turn in first, claiming first place. I watch my rear view mirrors for Max but see him fighting one of the McLarens as the gap between my car and his increases.

"Gap to Piastri behind, 2.3." Gareth says. "What happened to Max?" I ask. "Long pit stop." Gareth explains and I roll my eyes. "10 laps left." Gareth adds as I complete another lap.

"Final lap of the race." Gareth says. I look behind me to see Oscar but he's not close enough to overtake me as I dive into the first few corners. The feeling of winning a Grand Prix will never get old. Excitement fills my veins as a complete the last few corners and turn onto the main straight. I see the checkered flag as I cross the finish line. "And that's P1 Hannah!" Gareth exclaims over the radio. "Yes! Let's go! Awesome job guys!"  I say, a huge smile under my helmet. "Oscar p2 and Norris P3. Max finished fourth." Gareth says as I complete my cool down lap.

I jump from the nose of my car, running to my team. "Yes, Hannah!" "Amazing!" I hear my team yell as they all hug me. I get dragged to get weighed by the FIA before I walk to take my helmet off. As I place my helmet down on the designated place I feel a hand on my shoulder. "That was an awesome race, Han." I hear and turn to find Oscar. I smile up at him before he pulls me into a hug. "Thanks Osc." I say before pulling away from the hug. I look at him, his smile just as wide as mine. "I'm so proud of you for overcoming your crash. Look at you! Amazing." Oscar says just so I can hear. I smile and I feel my cheeks heat up. I'm about to reply before Lando runs up to us and throws his arms around both of our shoulders. "Best podium ever!" He yells out causing the three of us to laugh before we are separated for our interviews.

Lando gets interviews first and then Oscar is ushered up. He's asked about the race and he smiles. "It was a great race. An incredible win from Hannah especially after her crash in Australia. It seems like all we F1 drivers want is danger looking at how she jumped straight back into the car after an accident like that. I'm glad I get to share a podium with her." Oscar says and his eyes flick over to me as he says that, causing my cheeks to heat up.

I take the microphone for my interview and Oscar lightly squeezes my hand as he walks past me. "Well Hannah, that was incredible. How do you feel?" The interviewer asks. "Besides the healing ribs?" I ask with a smile earning myself some chuckles from the people surrounding me. "I feel great, glad to be on the top step again with this amazing team." I smile. "You heard some very nice words from your fellow driver, Oscar. Do you have anything to say in response?" He asks me. "I'm glad to finally share a podium with him. I know the two of them have been working hard in Woking but Max and I are still planning on beating them." I say with a laugh.

I roll my suitcase to the door as I double check I haven't left anything in the hotel room. I open my hotel room door to find max waiting outside. "Hey, you ready to go?" He asks me. "Yup." I smile. "The others will meet us at the airport as they are running late." Max says. "Who are the others?" I ask him. "Oscar, Daniel and Charles." Max says as we take the elevator down to the ground floor. "Awesome." I say with a laugh, this will be chaotic.

Max and I sit on the plane waiting for the others as I scroll through Twitter and laugh at people reposting the photo I posted of Oscar and I. "What's up party people!" I hear a familiar voice yell as Daniel appears. "Hey Dan!" I say and he greets max with a handshake before hugging me hello. He flops down on the seat in front of me, next to max. "Bonjour!" Charles says. "What's up guys." I hear Oscar say from behind him as Charles greets us and Oscar hugs the other two before sitting in the open seat next to me. "Hey." I smile at him. "Hi." He says leaning over the walk way and kissing me. "Hey I know we're out of the public eye but I'm not having you guys make out the whole flight!" Max says, causing us to giggle and break apart. "Sorry bro." Oscar says, holding his hands up. Max looks at me before leaning over the table. "Have you discussed about your thoughts this morning?" Max asks and I shake my head no. "Ah ok, you definitely should though but not now. We're going to partyyy!" He yells before grabbing a bottle of alcohol from the cabinet next to him.

By the time we took off we were all a few drinks in. At least the flight isn't long but I currently find myself placing my empty glass on the table. I move to sit back down but a pair of strong hands find my waist and pull me backwards. I land with a yelp in Oscar's lap. "Hey." He says with a lopsided smile. "Hi." I giggle out as I move his messy hair away from his face. I can see in his eyes that both of us are a little buzzed as the other three burst out laughing at some game they are playing. I wrap my arms around Oscar's neck before snuggling closer to him. His hand softly runs up and down my back as I watch Max laugh at Charles as he downs his drink. I feel Oscar rest his head on my head and a chuckle rumbles through his chest.

Thank you, still can't believe he took that.

I laugh and shake my head at the photo as I save it to my gallery. I lazed around my hotel room today, preparing myself for the coming weekend. I eventually unpack my suitcase before jumping into the shower. I change into my pajamas and jump into bed, knowing I have a busy week ahead of me.
