𖤐The sorting ceremony𖤐

As they arrived in the great hall, they all looked around, stunned.
There were five long tables. One at the top where the teachers were.
Two to the left and two to the right, the roof was enchanted to look like the sky outside. Charlie read about it, and so did Hermione. The four tables on either side of them had banners draped above them.
The one to the far left had dark green with silver lining and a black snake on the middle. Creating the small letters. Slytherin.
The table beside that had a medium blue on it with a silver lining and a raven in yellow with the small black words. Ravenclaw.
The table on the far right had was light red with black lining and a gold lion in the middle with the small gold words.
Gryffindor.
The table next to that closest to Ravenclaw had a yellow banner with black lining and a white badger in the middle. The small white words could be made out read.
Hufflepuff.
There were also floating candles.

The lady who led them in, Profeser McGonnagall, stood beside a stool she had a scroll in her hand and a hat in the other. The sorting hat. Charlie and Harry had been told about it.
She placed the sorting hat on the stool, and it started singing.

There's nothing hidden in your head
The Sorting Hat can't see,
So try me on and I will tell you
Where you ought to be.
You might belong in Gryffindor,
Where dwell the brave at heart,
Their daring, nerve, and chivalry
Set Gryffindors apart,
You might belong in Hufflepuff,
Where they are just and loyal,
Those patient Hufflepuffa are true
And unafraid of toil
Or yet in Ravenclaw
If you've a ready mind,
Where those of wit and learning,
Will always find their kind
Or perhaps in Slytherin
You'll make your real friends,
Those cunning folk use any means
To achieve their ends.
So put me on! Don't be afraid!
And don't get in a flap!
You're in safe hands (though I have none)
For I am a thinking cap!

The whole hall burst into applause as the hat finished its song. It bowed to each of the four tables and then became quite still again. McGonnagall picked it up.

"So we've just got to try on the hat!" Ron whispered. "I'll kill Fred. He was going on about wrestling a troll."
Yes, trying on the hat was a lot better than having to do a spell. The hat seemed to be asking rather a lot.
Professor McGonnagall now stepped forward, holding a long roll of parchment. "When I call your name, you will put on the hat and sit on the stool to be sorted." Her voice rang out through the hall. "Hannah Abbott!"
A pink faced girl with blonde pigtails stumbled out of the line put on the hat, which fell right over her eyes, and sat down. A moment pause -
"HUFFLEPUFF!" The hat shouted.
The table on the right cheered and clapped as Hannah went to sit down at the Hufflepuff table. The Fat Friar waved merrily at her.

"Susan Bones!"
"HUFFLEPUFF" shouted the hat again, and Susan scuttled off to sit next to Hannah.

"Terry Boot!"
"RAVENCLAW!"
The table nearest to the first-years on the left clapped this time, and several Ravenclaws stood up to shake hands with Terry as he joined them.

"Mandy Brocklehurst!"
"RAVENCLAW!"

"Lavender Brown!"
"GRYFFINDOR!"

"Millicent Bullstrode!"
"SLYTHERIN!"

"Justin Finch-Flecthley!"
"HUFFLEPUFF!"

"Seamus Finnigan!"
"GRYFFINDOR!"

"Hermione Granger!"
"GRYFFINDOR!"

"Neville Longbottem!"
....
"GRYFFINDOR!"

"Draco Malfoy!"
"SLYTHERIN!" The hat didn't even touch his head properly.

"Harry Potter!"
As Harry stepped forward, whispers suddenly broke out like little hissing fires all over the hall.
"Potter, did she say?"
"The, Harry Potter?"
"GRYFFINDOR!" The hat shouted after a minute.
Harry heard the hat shout the last word to the whole hall.
He took off the hat and walked shakily over to the Gryffindor table.
He was so relieved to have been chosen and not put in Slytherin. He hardly heard noticed he was getting the loudest chear yet. Percy, the prefect, got up and shook his hand vigorously, while the twins yelled. "We got Potter! We got Potter!" Harry sat down opposite the ghost in the ruff he'd seen earlier.
The ghost patted his arm, giving Harry the sudden, horrible feeling he'd just been plunged into a bucket of ice-cold water.

"Lisa Turpin!"
"RAVENCLAW!"

"Ronald Weasly!"
"GRYFFINDOR!"

"Blaise Zabini!"
"Slytherin!"

"Blair Zabini!"
"GRYFFINDOR!"

"Ezra Greenwich!"
"HUFFLEPUFF!"

"Diona Collins!"
"RAVENCLAW!"

"Charlie Potter!" McGonnagall called out. The last person. Harry listened intently, hoping his older brother would be in Gryffindor like him.

"SLYTHERIN!" The hat shouts. The hall goes silent, and then the Slytherin table bursts out in applause.
Harry was angry. So angry he was seeing red. His own brother in Slytherin! The same house of the man who killed their parents and gave Harry the scar. His own brother who was meant to stick with him forever! His thoughts were interrupted by Dumbledores' speech. After his speech, Harry had calmed down a bit. All his thoughts disappeared when the food appeared.
