Demi's pov

Demi's pov

My broken wrists were healing while Harris's health was ailing and I had nothing more to do than to cry which is what I have done over the past years.

Cry, cry, and cry again without thinking of a solution to my issues and there was no solution in sight even if I tried to think.

I couldn't run away, where would I run to? Neither could I work to gain money for his health, where would I work? I was a designated slave here.

I was a mere pack slave, a weak omega who went through the same process of torture every day of her life while trying to fend for her brother and I feared dearly that this is what things would be like for us for the rest of our lives.

I winced as the blisters on my palms ached when I held onto the brush to scrub the grounds, they burned with a fiery intensity that heightened my pain.

My heart wasn't where I was at the moment, it was where Haris was in our room and I wondered and worried about his condition since I wasn't there to check up on him.

I knew he'd be tossing and turning now in discomfort.

I could only wipe him down with a wet hot cloth in the morning when his symptoms got worse which was what I did all the time and while I did that, I prayed hard that he would be okay like I always did each time he got this sick.

I couldn't spend much time with him like I would love to because I had to scrub the halls and meeting rooms for Logan was receiving guests and he needed things to be put in place.

It was a very special guest he had stated while warning me not to mess this up so contrary to my wishes, I had to abandon Haris and do Logan's bidding.

My hands were sore and tender, my joints felt terrible like they were inflammed and my back ached.

My wrists weren't completely healed and I had a terrible headache but I went on scrubbing with all my might not wanting to incur their wrath because I was hoping not to be beat today which was highly impossible but a girl could hope.

As I scrubbed the ground I could hear chatter and high-pitched laughter followed by the clicking soles of boots against the tiles.

I looked up to see Nina and her friends walking into the hall with their riding attire, they had just finished from outside and as they waltzed into the place, the mud from their shoes stained the spots which they stepped on, on places where I had cleaned completely.

I frowned and waited for them to reach me and when they did, I rose to my feet standing before them so they would notice me.

"What's that smell?" One of the girls asked putting her hand over her nose and she waved her wrist in a motion that indicated that she was blowing the air.

"Smells like corpses." Another added and they all burst into laughter jeering at me as I stood before them waiting for their conversation to be over.

"And why are you standing before me like that?" Nina asked raising a brow at me.

"You should have taken the other hall."

"What?"

"I am cleaning and you walked in staining the floor with your muddy shoes."

Nina's eyes narrowed into slits as she glared at me with her girls but I didn't care. I had to leave my sick brother to scrub the halls and I was almost done only for them to come in and mess everything up.

"Repeat it."

"I said." I moved closer to her and almost laughed when she backed away from my stench, "You stained the grounds with your m-"
