Synopsis of Previous Chapter, the clean version: You were thinking of your time alive up on the balcony of the hotel. This got you thinking of the one big mistake you made when you were alive. Alastor found you and explained that he can tell when you're thinking about that particular topic because you have a specific look on your face. He began telling you what he remembered of that night. He explained that he saw you on the end of a date with a not great man. A man who put you in a difficult situation. You had to make a decision that ultimately resulted in the man's death, which you had a big part in. Alastor explained that he watched you work towards fixing your mistake in detail and how you didn't seem very upset about the outcome. He even told you that he came to the coffee shop where the incident happened the next day and interacted with you. Explaining the story to you again seemed to spark something in Alastor. He told you he wanted to see you do it again.
Now, onto the show!
I knew it! I knew it, I knew it, I knew it! The fucking psychopath! I can't sleep. I've tried for hours and all I've done is toss and turn. I finally gave up and started pacing back and forth in my hotel room. I feel twitchy and irritated. Maybe just because I'm a bit wired from the lack of sleep.
Alastor can take lives like taking those chocolate mints from that one Italian restaurant. Super easy! Me on the other hand? I'd rather not take one at all! I'd like to treat it like chicken pox if I could. I had it once when I was younger, so now I shouldn't have it ever again, right?!
He never explicitly said it was a task as one of my three favors. He never really followed up with more details about it afterwards. It was interesting. He was very intrigued by the idea. Excited by it. I think seeing my panicked face made him happy. He just said that it would be better at another time and left me alone. Does he have a particular demon in mind? Does he want me to kill someone random?
Ugh! I don't want to focus on this! Once I look out the window of my hotel room, I can see that it's getting brighter outside.
"Fuck." I say angrily. I didn't get any sleep. Today is going to be rough. I should find something with caffeine to try and get me through the day.
After a quick shower and a change of clothes I walk through the hallway and out into the lobby. It looks like I'm the first one awake. Makes sense, it's still super early. I'm not sure if the bar is going to have anything that would be helpful for me right now. Out to find food I go!
Once I start walking to the double doors I'm quickly interrupted by a sudden portal. It appears right in my walking path, and it caught me off guard. I'm not able to avoid it.
"Whoa!"
"Oh shit!" I say at the same time as another individual as I collide with them. I accidentally knock them back through the other end of the portal and back to their original destination before the portal closes. The unknown individual and I tumble to the ground in the new location. I'm not in the hotel anymore, that's for sure.
The first thing I notice is my surroundings. The room is huge and filled with... are these rubber ducks? Besides the mountains of ducks, there's also a work desk and a picture of Lucifer, a younger Charlie, and who I'm assuming is Charlie's mother. Where am I?
"Um... (y/n), was it?" I hear a familiar voice below me question. I realize I've been so busy looking at my destination that I never actually stood up. I look under my arms and low and behold, the King of Hell himself is pinned to the ground between my arms.
He looks a little dazed and confused, but not upset. "If possible, could I get up?" He questions again. How on Earth is he asking so politely?!
"Oh my! I'm so so so so sorry!" I say quickly, scrambling to move off Lucifer and back to my feet. "I didn't mean to, your highness! Please forgive me! Oooooh no." I mutter the last part, looking around the room again. Is this Lucifer's work room?!
Lucifer stands up and pats himself down, putting his arms out to me. "It's okay, really. It was an accident." He forgives me quickly. He looks confused again as he points his cane at me. "How... did you get here? Did you just waltz into my portal?" He questions.
"I... think so?" I answer back in a question. "I was trying to leave the hotel to go to breakfast and I think it just timed out poorly." I laugh a little. "Seriously, what are the odds?" I joke as I look around. "But I can absolutely get out of your hair! I'm so sorry again! Just... point me in the direction out and I'm gone!" I explain as I continue looking around.
"Whoa! (y/n), slow down." Lucifer states calmly as he pulls his phone out and begins texting. "I was just heading to the hotel to tell Charlie about her upcoming meeting. But I can just text her!" He says with a big smile. As he's texting, I can hear him muttering the words he's sending out loud. "Heeeeeeey bitch!" He starts with.
"...Inside joke?" I question. Does Lucifer really call his daughter a bitch? I don't know a lot about him, but the little I've seen him it seems like he really cares for Charlie. By the tone of his voice, I don't think he means it sincerely.
"Oh yeah! She loves it!" Lucifer clarifies as he continues his text. After about a minute of Lucifer texting, he focuses back on me. "You said you were going out for breakfast?" He asks.
I nod. "I had a rough night and just need some food. Any recommendations?" I ask with a smile.
"Well, I don't mean to brag, but I do make the best pancakes in Hell!" Lucifer proudly puts his hand on his chest before suddenly shifting emotions and looking self-conscious. "I-I mean, if you... if you would be interested in, possibly, staying for breakfast?" He questions softly.
He seems like he is being genuine, like he'd really enjoy the company and is afraid to be rejected. Who in their right mind would reject this man and his offer for pancakes?!
"If I'm not imposing, Lucifer, that sounds wonderful." I smile. I know Alastor always smiles, but this is the biggest smile I've seen in my entire time here in Hell. Lucifer's face lit up at my acceptance of his offer.
"Really?! You'll stay for breakfast?!" He questions again. He's like an excited child. It's... adorable. "What do you like on your pancakes?! Butter?! Whipped cream?! Bananas?! Chocolate chips?!" Lucifer rapidly fires questions about pancakes at me. He's definitely excited.
"I'd be happy with anything you'd be willing to make. I don't want to be picky." I put my hands up in defense. "Can I help cook at all?" I offer.
Lucifer stands more confidently. I'd say he's standing tall... but... he's standing very confident after I ask my question. "Please, let me cook for you. I don't want you lifting a finger." He states as he snaps his fingers and we're suddenly in a kitchen. He has an apron tied around himself as he claps, making the stove top turn on.
"Wow... thank you, Lucifer." I truly don't know what to say. This is so kind. I wonder if I'd be crossing a boundary if I asked, but how can I not?! "Earlier... in the other room... all the ducks?" I question.
"I'm..." Lucifer seems at a loss for words as he looks from the stove back at me and then shifts his eyes around the room before focusing back on me. "...working on something." He states vaguely.
"Uh huh." I respond quietly. I'm not sure what to say to that response. But I'm fricking excited about pancakes with Lucifer!
