Clara was six months along in her pregnancy, and the Afton family's life had settled into a comfortable, albeit busy, routine. The morning sickness had mostly faded, replaced by a constant sense of anticipation and a growing excitement that filled the house. William was busy with his business, the kids were caught up in their own lives and school, and Clara was adapting to the changes in her body, managing her job at the cafe, and taking care of her family.

Today was a special day—one that Clara and William had been eagerly awaiting. It was time for Clara's ultrasound appointment, a chance to see their baby again and maybe learn a little more about the newest member of their family. As they drove to the clinic, a mix of excitement and nervousness filled the car. William held Clara's hand tightly, his thumb gently stroking the back of her hand, offering silent reassurance.

"Are you nervous?" he asked softly, glancing over at her.

Clara smiled, her hand resting on her rounded belly. "A little," she admitted. "But mostly excited. I just want to make sure everything's okay."

William nodded, understanding her worries. "Everything will be fine," he said confidently. "And who knows? Maybe we'll get to find out if we're having a boy or a girl today."

Clara chuckled, feeling a flutter of excitement at the thought. "That would be nice, wouldn't it? I've been dying to know."

As they arrived at the clinic and checked in, Clara felt a familiar mix of anticipation and anxiety. She'd been through this process before, of course, but each pregnancy was different, and each ultrasound brought its own set of emotions. As they sat in the waiting room, William squeezed her hand, a silent reminder that he was there with her every step of the way.

After a short wait, a nurse called Clara's name, and they were led to a small examination room. Clara changed into a hospital gown and lay down on the padded examination table, the bright lights overhead casting a warm glow on her. The ultrasound technician, a friendly woman named Linda, smiled warmly as she entered the room.

"Hello, Clara! William! How are we doing today?" she asked, her voice cheerful and calming.

"We're good," Clara replied, trying to relax as she settled onto the table. "Just excited to see our baby again."

Linda nodded and began preparing the ultrasound machine, squeezing a generous amount of cool gel onto Clara's belly. "Well, let's have a look then, shall we?" she said, moving the transducer over Clara's abdomen with practiced ease.

The room fell silent as the screen flickered to life, displaying the fuzzy, black-and-white image of their baby. Clara's breath caught in her throat as she watched the screen, her heart swelling with emotion. There was their baby, tiny but perfect, moving gently within her.

"There we go," Linda said softly, pointing to the screen. "There's your little one. Everything looks great so far—strong heartbeat, good movement. Would you like to know the gender today?"

Clara and William exchanged a quick glance, their eyes sparkling with excitement. They had discussed this moment many times over the past few weeks, and both had agreed they wanted to know. They nodded eagerly in unison, their hands tightly clasped together.

"Yes, please," Clara said, her voice trembling with anticipation.

Linda smiled and nodded. "Alright, let's see if we can get a good look." She carefully maneuvered the transducer, searching for the right angle. After a few moments, she paused, her smile widening.

"Well," she said, her eyes twinkling, "it looks like you're having a little boy."

Clara's heart skipped a beat, and she felt a rush of joy flood through her. A boy. Another son. She glanced over at William, who was grinning from ear to ear, his eyes bright with happiness.

"A boy," William repeated softly, almost as if he were testing the word on his lips. "We're having another boy."

Clara laughed, a tear slipping down her cheek. "A boy," she echoed, feeling a swell of love and excitement. She hadn't realized just how much she wanted to know until this moment, and now that she did, she felt an overwhelming sense of joy and peace.

Linda continued to take measurements and check the baby's development, but Clara could hardly focus on anything else. Her mind was spinning with thoughts of their growing family, of what it would be like to have another son in the house, of how Chris and Michael would react to the news.

As the appointment wrapped up, Linda wiped away the gel from Clara's belly and handed them a few printed images from the ultrasound. "Congratulations, you two," she said warmly. "Everything looks great, and your little boy is growing beautifully."

"Thank you," Clara replied, her voice thick with emotion. She took the pictures, holding them carefully as if they were made of the most delicate glass. She couldn't wait to show them to Michael, Chris, and Elizabeth, to share this moment with the rest of their family.

As they left the clinic, Clara felt lighter than she had in weeks. She was carrying a son, another beautiful addition to their family, and for the first time in a long time, she felt a deep sense of contentment. William wrapped an arm around her shoulders, pulling her close as they walked to the car.

"I can't believe it," he murmured, his voice filled with awe. "Another boy. Can you imagine?"

Clara smiled up at him, her heart full. "I can," she replied softly. "And I can't wait to meet him."

As they drove home, their hands intertwined, Clara couldn't help but feel a renewed sense of hope and joy. There were still many months to go, many challenges to face, but for now, she was happy—truly happy—knowing that their family was growing, that their love was expanding, and that their journey was far from over.
