I missed this feeling. When the room spins, everything feels like slow motion, and my vision goes slightly blurry. It's one of the best feelings in the world. I was sitting on Kelce's nice-ass couch, with Angie's cart in between my fingers. I happened to embarrass myself when I drank, so I was trying to catch myself before I became too energetic. As soon as I went tipsy, my shyness went away and I returned a lot of Angie's energy. Part of me wished I was that outgoing all the time.
While twiddling with my fingers, occasionally hitting her cart, I heard a familiarly attractive voice from the front doorway. "Hey, man. What's good?" my ears perked up at Rafes voice. I locked my eyes on the interaction between him and Kelce. "Good to see ya, Rafe. You bring that shit?" they dabbed each other up. I watched Rafe smirk, reach into his pocket and pull out a small bag of white powder. Bad news. He ran a hand through his hair, letting it fall back into its perfect middle parted place. I didn't even notice him catch me staring, I was too busy tracing his body with my lips gapped.
"I'll spread the word." Kelce said. He ran off to tell his buddies. With a sudden burst of energy, I stood up from the couch to find Angie. If I stayed I wouldn't have been able to keep my eyes off of him. Alcohol clearly heightened all my feelings, but I've had more control in the past. Keeping a hand on the wall to steady myself, I found Angie dancing with another one of our friends, Lissa. I didn't say anything, just hugged them both and started dancing to the music as they were.
Feeling hands on the small of my back, I whipped around to see a boy I didn't know. He was tall, dark haired, and looked athletic. To any other girl he'd be very attractive, so even though my mind was on a man, I let him dance with me. I could barely feel his hands going up and down my waist, as if my skin was malfunctioning. His body stopped moving, so naturally I stood still and looked closer at his face. With no fault, I became very uncomfortable. He was unfamiliar, and not who I wanted at all. I hoped that sooner or later I'd be able to crush on a boy within my reach, but tonight was not the night.
Before I could react his face came closer to mine and I panicked. When I saw his eyes close, I wrapped my arms around his neck and put my chin on his shoulder, hugging him. I wasn't going to let my first kiss be to some drunk stranger. Sure, it was embarrassing that I'd never done anything with a guy, but it was important to me nonetheless. And of course to my luck, when I opened my eyes on this random guys shoulder, I saw Rafe Cameron sitting on the couch with a girl around his shoulder. My eyes went wide, then my cheeks went pink when Rafe saw me staring, again.
I pulled away from Mr. Stranger as fast as I could in my state and sombered to the bathroom. It was open, thank god. I shut and locked the door before looking in the mirror. I had seen him with girls before, I'd heard stories about him fucking girls that I knew and never speaking to them again. So why was simply seeing him wrap his arm around someone so shocking right now?
A loud knock came from the door. "I'm busy!" I yelled. Staring at myself in the mirror, my lips were dry and my hair was messy. My whole nose was pink due to the alcohol and embarrassment. "It's, Angie and Lissa, let us in!" they giggled. I sighed and ran my hands through my hair, opening the door just to let them inside. "Gosh, are you okay?" Lissa asked. I must have looked worse than I saw myself. Angie stood seriously, she looked like she sobered up a bit. "Is it because Rafe is here?" she asked.
Angie and Lissa knew about my crush. But they were the absolute only ones I had ever told. It was a stupid sleepover our freshman year. "I've never cared about it before. I don't know what's wrong with me tonight." I rested my elbows on the sink, taking a deep breath. I could feel the alcohol still lingering, possibly even gaining its effect. Lissa grabbed my arms and wrapped me in a hug, Angie joining too. "He's not ruining your night, let's go have fun. Okay?" Lissa smiled warmly.
I stood up straight, nodded, and brushed my fingers through my hair quickly. They left the bathroom first, me following close behind. I bumped into Kelce when I stepped out, he looked like he was on a mission. "Oh, hey, Daphne. Wanna come with me? We got yayo." he whispered the last part in my ear. Now, I knew that I shouldn't, but I also knew that Rafe was supplying that 'yayo'. Usually I'd avoid him, but in my state, all I cared about was seeing his face. Even if I was just going to get awkward glances.
