This Peace You Speak Of
By: Demetrius MorelandThis peace you speak of—
What of it?
I've never seen it,
Nor felt its touch.
Are you sure it's real,
Or did you make it up?
The only peace I find
Is the peace I make
Under the roof in which
I pay.Have you seen it?
How did you come by it?
What did it feel like—
How much did it cost?
Do they take Amex?
Outside of God, I believe
In the tangible and the
Practical.
Things I can see,
Things I can hold,
Things I can take—
Back,
For my money back.See, too many people
Across this globe
Have prayed, searched,
Begged, and died for it.
I believe what they should've
Searched for is fortitude. What I've learned these last
Few years is:
You're damned if you do,
You're damned if you don't.
So I don't, and I won't—
And I wish you would.
Peace? That's just not
What I subscribe to.
Respect, on the other—
Hand, that my friend,
Will get you what you want.
